The new DPD site in Hinckley
Work has been completed on a huge £100 million parcel hub - the largest in Europe - which will see the creation of 1,000 jobs in Hinckley.
The 1,542ft long DPD depot on Hinckley Commercial Park at the Sketchley Brook development was finished ahead of schedule and will increase the company’s parcel capacity by more than 65%.
Developed by global integrated property group, Goodman, the hub covers 32 acres and features 264 loading dock doors, 6,790sqm of mezzanine split over two levels and 624sqm of office space.
Work is now ongoing to fit-out the interior with conveyor specialists Beaumer already on-site installing the automated sortation system which will run the length of the building.
Recruitment will begin in the New Year with vacancies available for deck hands, parcel loaders, vehicle maintenance, HGV mechanics, security, admin, IT and management.

“Our current level of investment is unprecedented in the industry and Hinckley is just part of the expansion which has taken place in recent times.
Throughout the project DPD has worked closely with Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and Goodman, which began work on the site in July 2013.
Building work involved moving 250,000 tonnes of earth, 4,500 tonnes of steelwork and 75,000 tonnes of concrete.
DPD already employ more than 7,000 people in the UK, operating more than 3,000 vehicles from more than 50 locations and delivering some 1.6 million parcels a week.
Lucrative contracts to deliver for Marks and Spencer and John Lewis have recently been signed.
