So they won't buy expensive things like new TV or holiday or whatever and keep their money. At it is Citylink not Citilink.

Look at who is delivering parcels.

Royal Mail & Parcel Force
DHL
TNT Whistl
UPS
Amazon Logistics
Fed Ex
Yodel / Home Delivery Network (Not sure if it same company)

Stores with own delivery network ie Next /Argos
Independent Couriers

There is plenty of work. We might get an increase of business for parcels. But there are declines ie Ebay parcels going to Argos call and collect instead.
"Shame on the boss not giving them warning" - as if they would continue delivering parcels after being warned that the company's about to fail.

I think of all the packets being delivered, we must be the only ones delivering CHINESE ebay packets. Let's hope the chinese don't get a cheaper offer from a rival company or it's the end of rm!
Why are lino's paid full-time ??

The Chinese don't have a choice, they either send it by courier or use China Post (which ends up in RM's hands).

Parcel delivery is expensive, online firms are hiding or subsidizing that cost from the general public just to ensure market trade. The firms taking on this burden are all minimum wage zero hour of self employed basis. RM itself is in danger of going down this track by picking up Amazon deliveries that Amazon can't deliver profitably. People who moan about sending a letter for 62p :Boo hoo! are not going to want to pay the cost of delivering their bargains...That's we we get shed loads of recoded Chinese packets from ebay that are all free postage ! The same moaners would sign petitions about child labour and exploitation of third world workers, buy fairtrade bananas and still shop at Primark

Doubt we actually get paid anything for chinese parcels given that many of the items cost less (with free postage) than the postage within the UK would cost let alone travel from China. :arrrghhh

Someone working for City Link until Christmas Eve was complaining about the money they had wasted on new uniforms when there was nothing wrong with the old ones and complaining about the £2 million they had wasted on new scanners when there was nothing wrong with the old ones.
At least Royal Mail won't be giving us new uniforms. :Very Happy

Well they wouldn't go very far with RM, Citylink only had 2700 employees and you can understand Ofcoms stance on the USO when we have about 120,000 delivery people.

Come on people can we at least spare a thought for the 1000's of workers that found out on Christmas day they'd probably lost there job and have almost certainly worked the last few weeks for free as wages aren't likely to be paid.
I agree 100% poor sod's hard working people just like us dumped some of those will probably end up losing there houses and cars if they can't find another job.

While I agree it's a shame for the staff I don't lament the loss of Citylink. I found they delivered very poor service. I almost always had to pick up a parcel from their depot as they couldn't find my address or failed to leave a card and I would need to track the parcel down myself through vendor. Never had this issue with any other courier, however Hermes tends to be a terrible service also (once had a note through door which said IF U R NOT IN WHY U ORDER STUFF) put through my door, also said he had tried 3 times that week but left a card only once which was completely blank).

Senior Service wrote:As an earlier poster said I do feel sorry for the workers, the ones likely to suffer most are the owner drivers I expect they were working every hour they could up to Christmas and will be at the bottom of the pile for getting paid. its even worse when you consider they will have had to pay out to work running their own van, paying for diesel etc only then to perhaps get nothing back. Its not all good news for us either as a lot of ex City Link employees may be looking to join RM and will be more flexible and willing to put up with what's asked of them just to have a job. We have got runners now causing us problems and we could get desperate runners!
Could not agree more ,the employees will get something and have certain rights and many are Union members
So whilst I feel sorry for all concerned it is the Owner drivers who will be at the bottom of the pile in the creditors list, yet will still have to pay for their leased van (most probable) fuel ,maintance ,tax. Yet receive nothing, I am sure early Dec they were still advertising for owner drivers, disgraceful, and if had my way Directors would be jailed and stripped of their personal assets.

Doesn't stuff like that basically result in the Royal Mail & China Post adding up the total amount of stuff they shipped to each other, with the one who shipped more paying x amount per tonne for the extra?

I ve often wondered if we get anything.

The only things we send back to China is the stuff which does not work or is really crap.
