Postal staff worried that closure of local sorting office means Christmas deliveries might be missed

A worried postal worker is concerned that management changes to working practices and organisation in Royal mail in Gloucestershire will mean some people miss their Christmas deliveries.
The staff member, who spoke to the Echo anonymously for fear of losing their job said that the closure of the Gloucester Mail Centre earlier this year has put too much strain on the Bristol centre.
The worker said: “Ever since the Gloucester mail centre closed earlier this year when the work was transferred to the Bristol Mail Centre, we can see that Bristol does not have the capacity or management / staff ability to handle the increased work load.
“It took Royal Mail 18 months to make the closure at four times the original closure costs - then the vehicle workshop got overlooked and is still on a closed site today
“Then the posties were asked to believe that the immediate problems that arose were " teething " problems, but we have noticed a much deteriorated quality of service since the transfer to Bristol and the posties everywhere are embarrassed about the poor level of service. Many offices around Gloucestershire have not replaced staff and it is quite usual for whole delivery rounds not to get delivered particularly on a Saturday -- not one or two rounds but many more across the county.”
Now the postal worker worries that many of his colleagues will let customers, who are relying on them for cards and present, down. And that senior bosses seem unwilling to help out
He said: “Now the posties fear is Christmas will be a big failure to deliver everything by the due date and customers will be receiving cards and letters and parcels after Christmas .
“There is no sight of senior management assisting at the ‘coal face’ unlike all other big customer -focused businesses who get the ‘suits and boots’ out of their comfort zone to go ‘hands on.’ The posties’ morale is low as this has been preventable and local management seem incapable of responding to customers needs and protect the business we have .”
A spokesman for Royal Mail said, “Our operation in the Gloucester area has performed strongly throughout December and we are continuing to work hard to ensure all our customers’ cards and parcels are delivered in time for Christmas. Customers with any queries about their post should contact Royal Mail Customer Services on 03457 740740 so the enquiry can be properly logged and investigated."

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Cirencester's collections, which used to be handled by Gloucester, which by default should now go to Bristol are instead going to Swindon. So, I guess that says Bristol are NOT coping.
