1. Double-band widthways as RM bands may as well be made of plasticine.
2. Number them for each bundle in any given pouch (bag).
3. Put letterbox-sized flat packets in the bundle as saves you stopping and going in your bag. Don't but odd-shaped ones in as they make the bundle slide about.
4. DO NOT put 739-cards in bundles if you have a packet - this is actually forbidden due to posties accidentally putting a blank 739 through someone's letterbox and then the furious customer driving to the enquiry office with a blank card - remember most of the pubic won't realize it'd have been filled in if meant to go to them!
5. Yes, don't end bundles in the same bag with the end of the road as it may be confusing where to go next, put the first of next bundle on the end to keep flowing.
6. Don't put specials in bundles, keep them separate in a box in the van so the driver is always aware there are some to be done before the 1PM deadline if it's necessary that he/she has to break-off to deliver them. If you do put specials in bags treat them as packets and put a reminder in the bundle, you can do this for the first loops where you know you'll be well before 1PM delivering.
7. Turn a letter over for houses that have a packet and write the house number on the back. If no letter for the house, then write number on back of the last address before it. Do this neatly so not to make a mess of someone else's letter!
8. Try and pick up any bands you drop, as there are always moaners regarding this and complaints.
9. If raining try and use the yellow bags to carry the bundles in to avoid the bottom letters turning to mush. Applies mainly to posties in Scotland, N.I., Wales and up North.
10. Don't forget to go and bundle your lapsing too as it will be thrown-off by someone else who may not turn letters for packets.
Have fun!

Thats the best idea,so it leads you on ,rather than leaving you at the end of a street wondering where to gogreengiant wrote:What I found helped was to add the first few letters of the next street to the end of a bundle, that way the letters point you in the right direction!
Don't make the bundles too big either.
Good luck, but I'm sure you'll be fine.

The Work Place Coaches are paid to ensure that your transition into a new role is as smooth as possible. There's no such thing as a stupid question, ask as many as you need in order to make sure that you the skills you require have been properly and fully demonstrated and understood.
The three days “on the job” training (Days 2–4) should progress at a pace that is in line with your individual needs and may continue into week 2. The 3 days are intended to build up job specific core skills by demonstration and through shadowing the Coach.

Really? We always do this. Just write the number on it and nothing else, and then you can use it if they (or the neighbour, neighbour, neighbour or neighbour) are not inbustedflush wrote: 4. You'd be doing the last bags first in my office, we work left-right top-bottom and I don't get why every other office isn't the same.Surreypostie wrote:Left to right from the bottom upwards and what I used to do for newbies was number the bundles, start at number 1 and carry on, do the same for each delivery pouch.

Re: about bundles...
If you do any time in the callers office you will see why this shouldn't be done, when you have had 3 or 4 people waving blank 739's at you and asking where their parcel is,the penny will drop and hopefully you won't do it again.dave72 wrote:Really?
