I don't know what type of walks you have, but the only walks in our office that take 2hrs+ to prep are commercials. I cut off all the time, but that's because we don't get off IPS until after 8pm at this time of year. On a Wed or Thursday with 3-4 packet bags it takes me about 1.45 from putting the first letter in to loading up the van. (Plus a 20 minute break). Our finish time on the walk is 2.05pm, so putting the first letter in at 10.15-10.30 means we have zero chance to complete.Stremy wrote:Its very hard to stand up when you are the only one.
I expect to chip in a bit by coming in early(payed) but an hour+ on the back end to and it gets too much to do every day.
They make you feel like everyone else is grafting hard and you are the one lazy bloke who wont do his part if you complain. They also get the time sheet out which shows you should be prepping your mammoth walk in less than 2 hours.
Most people I speak to feel hassled into it.They don't do it because they care.
Why should we care about the job now since they seemingly got rid of swings and roundabouts.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Only took parcels for (the lightest) half of the round and still claimed two hours extended, even with staying on frame prep instead of IPS. Silliest day so far, section was littered with undelivered parcel assistance when I finally left for home, it really needs someone coming in tomorrow to get them parcels cleared. Whether it happens is another question entirely, we are short staffed so those working a day off are expected to cover whole walks instead of having spares to assist the busier walks, the arrangements from previous Xmases are a non-starter.

Re: The "how much did you cut today" thread
In an office staffed by almost 100 people we have only 10 doing IPS, the rest are throwing off sequenced mail/flats for the shared van duties and the late starting part timers We finished IPS at 0925 yesterday without touching a full york of christmas cards. Virtually every delivery went over by at least an hour or was cut off....with the usual harassment of those not wanting/not able to work over by the management, of course. Today we finished IPS at 0915 but 3 yorks were put aside for next week.clashcityrocker wrote:OnAFlyer wrote: but that's because we don't get off IPS until after 8pm at this time of year.
Looking forward to Monday

About 45 mins today. To be honest I could have prob done a bit more but I had already left it behind. Its hard to judge with so many packets.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........
