You must know me Flashman. You have perfectly described what I believe is happening in my ( or our ) office. Only problem with B & H the complainant will be the one who's moved on, not the instigator.Flashman_ wrote:Our office has had a failed revision in for nearly 3 years now (due to be re done in the new year) . In that time a small but significant core of us have done the job properly. Consequently some of us have never completed the loops as designed at all. You probably can imagine the attitude of our managers to us. Over this time I have been bullied and told how poor my performance was. They tried and failed to charge me and others with various disciplinaries. A constant stream of intimidating or snide remarks have been aimed at us. Only this week our DOM was heard to be moaning how our Isle is the worst in the office, and a female member of staff was in tears, due to intimidation. We have had to put up with a lot and it still continues despite numerous grievances put in by staff.
However the thing that keeps me going is the fact that we are only doing what they wanted us to do. If you do the job completely my the book, probably most walks cannot be completed. I know that they have spied on us, to try and catch us out. I have had managers turn up on the walk without notice and watch and time me as I delivered.
It has been hard and depressing and I have been very low at times, but because I am doing everything the way it should be done they cannot do a damn thing about it.
If you feel you are getting unfairly treated and depressed, put in a B&H complaint, or grievance. Bear in mind that if you do, you may get bullied even more in the short term (I am talking from experience here). The key is for everybody to start standing up to these bullies, and exposing them.

Re: Feeling down
Forgot to say.
Stremy. Head up mate. If you're doing the job correctly they cannot do a thing. Do not let them get to you under any circumstances.
They will get fed up eventually. I've had this for nearly a year and to tell the truth it's actually quite nice not rushing to get the job done.

Re: Feeling down
Stremy - I feel exactly the same as you.
Completely feeling down with the job and the guy I'm having to work with.
Constant struggle with managers when I want to leave a couple of loops, after they do their stupid 'gap count' and saying you are under so should be able to get it done in the time.
Union rep is a waste of time - he is too cosy with management.
I didn't think it would get to me, but it has.

Re: Feeling down
counting gaps is so stupid, there are so many factors into what makes a delivery go quicker or longer, houses with no items, signed for items, people in and not in to receive packages, the amount of neighbours who are in to accept delivery. weather conditions
RM managers crudely trying to bring some "science" by counting gaps is purely absurd, until you can evaluate ALL factors (which in real life situations is probably impossible) then you cant know how long a delivery will take before it goes out. You can make an informed guess, but thats all it is, and if in practice the delivery still fails then thats the true result unless the manager can prove otherwise.

Why not count all attendance calls instead, would be a fairer reflection of added time.

Re: Feeling down
Does any one else who is on park and loop, have a part timer for the xmas period. i start at 6.30 and my loop partner comes in at 9.00 so having to throw 2 walks off to get back at a decent time is imposible , one thing i have learnt on this site and that is to stand your ground when saying you are cutting off, so that is what i do, so i now get managers coming to me half an hour after i have started work, to ask me how much will i be cutting off, they then push me to come up with a number, so i say the first figure to come into my head but make sure i say that if i'm wrong i will be bringing any access it back.

Re: Feeling down
Every single one of our 20 P&L deliveries is staffed by a full timer starting at 0700 and a part timer starting at either 0830 or 0900, with the full timer throwing in both walks on a daily basis. This has been the case for well over 3 years.wheresourmoney wrote:Does any one else who is on park and loop, have a part timer for the xmas period. i start at 6.30 and my loop partner comes in at 9.00 so having to throw 2 walks off to get back at a decent time is imposible , one thing i have learnt on this site and that is to stand your ground when saying you are cutting off, so that is what i do, so i now get managers coming to me half an hour after i have started work, to ask me how much will i be cutting off, they then push me to come up with a number, so i say the first figure to come into my head but make sure i say that if i'm wrong i will be bringing any access it back.

All 'managers' seem to think the 'gap count' is 100% accurate - if you are under then you can get it done.Postie45 wrote:counting gaps is so stupid, there are so many factors into what makes a delivery go quicker or longer, houses with no items, signed for items, people in and not in to receive packages, the amount of neighbours who are in to accept delivery. weather conditions

It is always wrong.
The figures they use is from (at least) two years ago. Even if the figures was from a week ago, they would be out of date.
This job really gets on my nerves now.
Completely brainwashed managers.

Re: Feeling down
It's not a case of better or worse offices. It's the standard of the management that makes or breaks an office. In my opinion there are very few RM managers who are of a decent standard and able to run an office properly. They wouldn't last long out in the real world of industry. I believe that don't get hardly any man management training and are just chucked in. But in reality they are not managers, just mouthpieces for the RM hierarchy to relay what they are told to do in the morning conference call.senior man wrote:Dont feel so bad about it there are better offices out there but there are also worse ones,we have been told the figures show we are down on last year so why are you booking over , it is intimidating and demoralizing, when there are no posties left to do the job who`s gonna earn the money for the fat cats?

The majority of our 'managers' are young lads in their early 20's with less than 2yrs experience in the job.
Heard the other day that one of the main runners is in line to become a manager soon, this particular comedian comes in at least an hour early every day & already struts around like he owns the place.
Thinks it's fair to say the position is his!
“Shorts,in this weather?!”
“If they’re bills I don’t want ‘em!”
“What’s she been ordering now?”

Re: Feeling down
Ive gone PT and for Christmas they put me on a shared rural that finishes at 3pm, so because I only do 5 hours I stroll in a 10am. The full timer has been prepping since 0645 and is tied up and ready to go by 9ish and waiting around but has to throw in loops because I dont start for another hour.Ozzvaldo wrote:Every single one of our 20 P&L deliveries is staffed by a full timer starting at 0700 and a part timer starting at either 0830 or 0900, with the full timer throwing in both walks on a daily basis. They make him take his break but of course Im entitled to 30mins. Its a complete clusterfuck but one I get a kick out off because of the way I was treated when I was full time. The full timer is also at a place now where he's happy to just take his time and work his hours. We both get grief daily, the problem is staring the managers in the face but they dont do anything about it.

Re: Feeling down
The problem is nothing to do with privatisation. The problem is that 95% of DOMs and 95% of THEIR bosses are utterly useless, lazy, self serving or incompetent. Very few would be employed by any other company in positions of responsibility. Having worked most of my life outside RM I can assure everyone of this. Most would be laughed out of the interview stage!! You simply cannot have such a huge swathe of incompetent managers without there being consequences. I'm hoping that, over time, privatisation actually addresses this, although which the vast numbers involved it will surely take years to achieve.
