First of 10,000 Life after Stroke Grants delivered through Royal Mail Group funding

The first Life after Stroke Grant funded by the Royal Mail Group has been made. Stroke survivor Jabeen Mitha is the first beneficiary of 10,000 such grants that will be funded through the Royal Mail Group’s charity of the year partnership with the Stroke Association.

Jabeen, from Newport in South Wales, has received a Rise and Recline Chair to help her move between sitting and standing on her own, giving her more independence.

Jabeen said:

“Getting a chair seems such a small thing but it has changed my life. I’m now so much more comfortable and I’m even able to have dinner at the table with my family, which is fantastic. I’d like to thank all of the fundraisers at Royal Mail for their support of the Stroke Association and people just like me.”
Jim Swindells, Director of Fundraising at the Stroke Association, said:

“It’s absolutely fantastic to see how the fundraising efforts of Royal Mail staff are making a difference to the lives of stroke survivors. Over the next two years, we will continue to work together to help transform the lives of people living with this devastating condition.”
Over the next two years, Royal Mail Group aims to raise at least £2 million for the Stroke Association.

The Stroke Association was chosen as Royal Mail Group’s Charity of the Year after receiving almost 40,000 staff votes. During 2013-14, the company contributed £9.8 million directly to charities, good causes and schemes for disadvantaged groups. The company also supported £3.3 million of staff fundraising for charities and good causes across the UK.
