HIGH COURT - AN ACT OF DESPERATION

In an act of desperation Royal Mail has won a high court injunction against the unions strike action of Monday and Tuesday next week.

The full details of the case are not yet known but we can confirm there was a minor discrepancy with the notice given to the employer for strike action.

The union will simply now adjust the action and name alternative dates. This comes on the back of Royal Mail taking all 4 strike days pay of out one wage packet for the majority of postal workers.

These tactics are a clear indication that despite their public charade Royal Mail are on the back foot and running scared. BECAUSE ROYAL MAIL CANNOT TACTICALLY BEAT US THEY HAVE RESORTED TO THE COURTS.

Some members are worried that a break in action will give Royal Mail time to clear the backlog. We must remember that from next Wednesday our MDECs, Logistics and HWDC sites will take action. This is on top of action taking place in other areas of the Country including Plymouth Mail Centre (this Saturday 13/10/07).

Management are keen to play down the impact of the backlog but we can confirm that Mail Centre and RDCs right across the Country have mail stacked to the rooftops and will be nowhere near cleared if we need to take further action.

Something else which may be considered as a blessing in disguise is the fact that Delivery and Processing members will now have a little financial respite after the majority of us lost fours days pay from one weeks wages.

We can confirm that amongst the hysteria an in principle agreement has been reached and will go before the PEC on Monday afternoon. As always any further developments will be relayed ASAP.

its been called of by HQ now but it was for the weekend workers there. Thus far they have missed out on strike and they held meeting and requested extra action. Thats the sort of spirit and selfless attitude that Leighton and Crozier will never break!!!

Quite right! Such a pity HQ couldn't quite get the wording right!

yep but all ths drama has done wonders for our media coverage. One thing that we must not forget is how poor communications have been from HQ right since the start of talks!!

at a local level my branch has excelled but i know some areas have missed out big time. This is an issue for HQ and branches.

To HQ I say stop employing postmen in the comms department - This is a job for professionals

To branch - in particular area reps/ branch secs - you all get release. Get off your backsides and do the job your elected to do!!

You're right. Our watchword for the future should be communication, communication communication. The odd thing is, it wasn't the official actions that brought the most media coverage but the wildcat actions. I don't believe our union noticeboard has been changed since before the strike.
