Can anyone actually advise that they've done a non sg special after 1pm on Saturday, if so did you get pulled up on the Monday as our locker staff reckon they'll come up as a failure on our system regardless.

If you attempt a second delivery to a customer who was not in say an hour previous and it is still before 1pm, there is no problem. If it has passed 1pm and you redeliver, it will show as failed, because it was not rescanned back into the office first.
In that scenario, use the old fashioned way and carry some of the old signing cards with you and use them.
No it doesn't fail, not in our office anyway. We have been told any subsequent scans just update the original one, but as it was originally scanned before 1pm there is no problem. We've been doing this even since we got PDA's 3 years ago and none have ever shown as failures.

Again, just what we do in our office but all SD's have to be done before 1pm no matter what the day - the exceptions are international items that are not RM SD's and hence don't have a 1pm guarantee.

I hope the public who pay the extra for a Saturday delivery in your area are being informed that the Saturday guarantee isn't worth paying the extra for as the normal priced one will get there as well on a Saturday before 1pm. I have done loads past 1pm on a Saturday that's not SG and have never been warned about it as I have also re scanned ones after 1pm if they are in on the way back and again never been told not too.

Unless SG segregated at the inward mail centre? Which I doubt.

Thanks for that, I will use my detective skills and find out. But we told a long time ago that a software update changed the way we could attempt 2nd deliveries the same day and if re-scanned after 1pm, it would show as a fail.

SGs aren't seperarted from normal specials. The system doesn't care if its a SG or not, it'll just see a non-SG not delivered on Saturday as failed

This bit comes over to me as if you are handing a piece of mail over in the street, which is strictly against policy, nothing should be handed over away from the address written on the item.
Yes I understand what you are saying but I meant as I deliver in a deep rural meeting the customer as I leave their premises or calling again at the premises later in the delivery or on way back to the depot if I drive past and see that they are in.
Yes, deep rural and nobody in at 11am I would call at 2pm on the way back in case they had returned - that was biro signature on paper when they would be pleased to still signed as 11am.
Now nobody in at 11am and I don't call at 2pm on the way back in case they had returned because I understand the PDA would record it as a failure.

But are you sure that the original scan time is retained if you rescan? If it's not then how does the system record the fact that the original scan was before 1pm?

It's not difficult to do from a technological point of view, I'm just wondering if the details of all scans for a given barcode are retained.

Knowing RM, probably not

None of them have failed in the 3 years we've been using PDA's, I've done it myself a few times without issue. The system must see the scan has been done twice, and that one attempt was before 1pm therefore no failure.

In our office the SG sticker means delivery must be attempted as normal regardless. Other than that we attempt all personal Special Deliveries as usual with closed firms being scanned into the locker (can't remember what as but some form of retained mail). Anything not scanned with a reason before 1pm would come up as a failure.

Yes - remember a scanned SD number and check its route for your own peace of mind on the track details page http://www.royalmail.com/trackdetails" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I've bought recordeds and sd's on a friday from ebay and it says it must be posted (handed over at p.o.) by monday close of business not saturday. So sd's are only guaranteed to get there by 1pm on working days not saturdays although it keeps the dom off you if you comply by 1pm.

You can deliver that sd after 1pm at the correct house by logging out of pda, log in again as INDOOR , scan the barcode , log out again and log back in as DELIVERY then scan and get signature. Make sure you get the first scan done before 1pm though.

And a lot of our sd,s we sign for are actually foreign tracked , and you can have an identical one in your ordinary packets! time wasting for rle staff methinks.
Why are lino's paid full-time ??

Only SDs not due for delivery on Saturday are ones with a Saturday retention in place. The number of foreign specials is increasing as RM sign reciprocal agreements with more countries.
