You can only swap out the complete unit now. I think once again it's too little too late. It's taken so long to get the modernisation in some areas they've only just started using PDAs, whilst the rest of us are struggling with old machines after a number of years. There was always talk of a slimline model for HCTs well that didn't happen and once again we are behind the competition and trying to limp along with inadequate equipment. Here they are talking about increasing it's workload when it can't cope with the workload they already have, just another indication as to how far away from the sharp end RM and the CWU are.wookie wrote:Ask the callers office for a new battery. Hate the things, they are junk.
Can hear the low battery beeping noise in my dreams now.

I have the deep joy of working Tracked packets in a MC and in the 7 hour 48 minute shift i generally have to replace the battery twice a night in spite of charging it for the 20 and 40 minute breaks. The beeping happens so often that i now dont even notice it mind its not good when it goes Blue.I have no doubt the replacements will be cheap nasty and not fit for purpose much like most of the workforce

Re: How many people have nearly lobbed their PDA's?
They are years out of date now. Why do we need a windows based scanner anyway. We should have been given a dedicated device with a power saving grey scale lcd screen like an old Palm. The operating system is simple not robust enough to handle outdoor delivery work without crashing. Why oh why did they not put some raised plastic shield around the yellow reset button
or at least put a 3 second press delay on the smegger. The slightest touch causes a long re-boot normally as you try to man-handle the brick over to a customer to sign.
God knows what the new one will be like but I am sure it will be the cheapest available on the market. If the people who buy these things fro RM had to complete a week on delivery using one then things would be so much different.

Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Nearly lobbed? I have. Turned it on at my first door up a close a few weeks ago and it turned itself off. 0% battery. Flung it down the stairs so loud a neighbour came to the door to see what the noise was.
The machine stops.

Yep that's the way to make it work right enough and next time the TVs on the blink give it a crack with a hammer that's sure to fix the problemMr Rush wrote:Nearly lobbed? I have. The OS is Windows, what do you expect?!
I scanned a special today then the PDA froze and died a quiet death. RIP PDA.
