Royal Mail beats letters target

The Royal Mail delivered first and second class letters ahead of its target in the first half of the current financial year, according to new figures.

More than 93% of first class post was delivered the next working day, (0.3% ahead of target), while the second class target of delivery within three working days was 98.9% (98.5%).

Only eight out of 118 postcode areas failed to meet or exceed the targets.

Sue Whalley, Chief Operations Officer at Royal Mail said: "Our postmen and women work exceptionally hard to deliver to these demanding targets, which are some of the highest in Europe."
