A lot of people even know they don't work and just scribble on them. It's a totally useless security feature, until they bring in better PDAs then anything that needs a signature is a waste of time and money, especially letters or parcels that can fit through the letter box with anybody having drawn on the screen.dvbuk55 wrote:Well I hope it was the person who signed because a signature on the PDA is practically worthless as a method of identification it's so indistinct.answer=42 wrote:Whose name did you type in, the name it was addressed to or the name of the person that signed for it?

Won't make any difference, lets face it we deliver to whoever answers the door, and to whatever name they give, ie mr smith could live at the addy with mrs Jones. Until we demand id on the doorstep and only in the name of the adressee we haven't a clue if the name they give or sign is any relation to the intended recipient or not.stan_lers wrote:A lot of people even know they don't work and just scribble on them. yep, lets face it the pdas are terrible to write on, even people trying to write legitimately often say "oh thats come out badly" when looking at their scribble on the PDA.
Also theres NOTHING to stop people faking a signature, or just putting a scribble. We are supposed to just accept this, so when theres a complaint about an item not being received when signed for then the problem is ALL Royal Mails for not implementing a better system for people to accept signed delivery.
A simple solution RM can have for free ... give every address their own PIN number that they have to enter into the PDA to accept delivery, no pin ? no delivery. Of course they wont do this as its cheaper to get the 99.99% signed deliveries with eligible signatures or not without complaint, and then throw the book as the postie when the 0.01 complain that they havent got their item despite it being signed for.

Simpler still get the customer to stand against a wall and, no no not shoot them, have a PDA that takes a photo with them holding the package.Postie45 wrote:yep, lets face it the pdas are terrible to write on, even people trying to write legitimately often say "oh thats come out badly" when looking at their scribble on the PDA.

I was chatting to a DPD guy the other day, and when they 739 an item, they have to use their 'PDA' to take a snapshot of the front door to prove they've actually been there.
Maybe we should take a photo of the front door even when we have delivered an item, to stop
things like this from happening.
NB: the DPD guy's PDA was a tablet.

We have a perfect record in aviation: we never left one up there.

It is actually a very good system...one tried to deliver an item from amazon for me, I was out so he took a picture and low and behold he tried to deliver it to the wrong address (not even on the same street

RM are pushing us to basically leave anything anywhere you can ....especially tracked items...even though the onus is on us....they've made it clear to us that under no circumstances do they wants us to bring tracked items back to the office....even forcing us to go back to the address when we've finished our deliverery to try again should we happen to arrive back at work a little ahead of schedule .....it's utter shite
