Injunction: Strikes SUSPENDED.

SUSPENSION OF PLANNED INDUSTRIAL ACTION SCHEDULED FOR 18.00 HOURS MONDAY 15TH OCTOBER UNTIL 1800 HOURS TUESDAY 16TH OCTOBER.

CWU were informed this afternoon that Royal Mail was seeking an injunction in lieu of a full hearing to prevent industrial action taking place next Monday/Tuesday 15/16th October.

At 6.00 p.m. today â€“ Friday 12th October - our lawyers advised the General Secretary that Royal Mail had been successful in obtaining the injunction. The Union was represented by John Hendy QC, together with Binder Bansell, Pattinson Brewer who vigorously defended the action in the Court. Despite this the injunction was granted.

The Court has restrained the Union from calling out its members in Mail Centres and Delivery Offices on Monday 15th October and Tuesday 16th October respectively and as a consequence each action consisting of strike action of 24 hour duration will no longer take place. As a consequence you should attend for work and work normally. Details of the injunction will be forwarded to Branches on receipt.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS DOES NOT AFFECT FURTHER PLANNED STRIKE ACTION WHICH THE UNION HAS ALREADY SERVED NOTICE OF, WHICH IS UNAFFECTED BY THIS DECISION.

It will be noted that the injunction does not cover Airports and Separate Collection Hubs but because of the small numbers involved it was thought prudent to also withdraw this planned action.

Branches are asked to ensure that all members are made aware of this. This LTB us being sent out electronically to all Branches and Divisional Reps. Divisional Reps, in particular, are asked to ensure that Branches within their areas are made aware of this communication.

Or maybe they've taken heed of my advice after the 'period of calm' trick, that we keep striking until any deal has been accepted by a democratic ballot of the membership. No let-up in the pressure on RM, no stalling tactics, no surrender.

Didn't vigorously pursue enough then.

To go the High Court on a Friday afternoon, and with a statement issued at 6pm shows RM had a) the govenrment backing them in this b ) the money to do so - or did Brown lend some more? c) they knew all along the CWU had f****d up somewhere along the line.

Whatever the final outcome, Crozier and Leighton will be loathed by the majority. One hopes what comes around goes around with those two. Crozier and Leighton will now unbelievably be able to justify their massive salaries by saying they thwarted further strikes and ensuing chaos. You better believe that.

If the deal is s**t to us - the paying union member - do not accept it - let the CWU and RM know exactly how you feel.

There is no way this is over, unless the terms are absolutely correct.

The reason, i suspect, the CWU are sleeping on this [ without informing] is because they will want to go through every single, conceivable wording in the agreement supposedly reached - with the same lawyers who failed to defend us today.

Me neither. It's my long weekend off and I've booked a nice long weekend away (not really) and won't be back until late Tuesday. As far as I'm concerned we are on strike, unless my manager calls me to tell me otherwise.
