They just go in the locker. SD's and Tracked get scanned by the locker guy, others just go straight onto the shelf. I don't see why the tracked number is needed other than if the customer needs it for some reason.Mezza wrote:I don't follow - if you don't write the tracked number on a P739, then what do you do with a Special, recorded or foreign signed for item that has no peel off sticker available?

Re: Tracked Items Barcode.
The customer needs it for a variety of reasons including redelivery requests, tracking their item.
The one person that really needs that number though is the poor sod in the locker when they can't find the item. being able to go on track and trace and know if the item ever came back to the office saves so much time.
That's ignoring the fact the actual P739 card has a space in which your supposed to write the tracking number.
Saying if rubs off in the rain is no excuse - everything rubs off in the rain.
Most delivery staff that don't bother writing the tracking numbers down are staff that have never worked indoors and don't have any understanding of the trouble it causes when a tracking number is missing from a 739.

Re: Tracked Items Barcode.
Spare a thought for the staff in the callers office who have to sort out any problems with having no tracking number.
For example..... Postman puts 739 card through door then the customer answers the door but doesn't give the card back.
Then the customer finds the card and comes into the office to try and collect a parcel they already have.
I've spent ages going through every tracked wasting my time looking for something that isn't there.
Yes it's a pain to write out but it's invaluable when there's a problem.
And yes there should be a peel off sticker to use.

I've never bothered with barcodes and have never been told otherwise thankfully.

Seriously, is it that hard? If you have to no answer a special, signed for or tracked item then put the number on the P739 and tick the relevant box. Do the job properly.

Write the address in the part where it says address. The PHG then looks for an item with the same address. It ain't rocket scienceMezza wrote:I don't follow - if you don't write the tracked number on a P739, then what do you do with a Special, recorded or foreign signed for item that has no peel off sticker available?

Re: Tracked Items Barcode.
It's just another part that is so wrong within Rm and stems from the whole culture of every man for himself and sod everyone else.
Some staff find it amazing that once upon a time if you saw someone struggling then those that weren't mucked in and helped them out.
These days even if one of a shared duty is struggling the other one will bag up and just leave them to carry on, whilst moaning they are too slow to anyone that'll listen.
If they can get away with not doing something then they will if it means they can knock off a bit earlier and save time.If it impacts someone else then tough.
Then they bleat about getting more and more put on their duties, lapsing etc etc - It's a vicious merry go round but they will never listen. Your cutting your own throats and shitting on everyone else.

Which again is incorrect procedure - too many 739's get posted by accident and then the customer turns up expecting another item.

Nobody said it was, but what does the person in the callers do when they can't find the item?
No tracking number to check if it's even come back into the office.
Anyone that has worked in the callers office would know what a pain you lt are for not writing a tracking number on a 739.
It's either laziness or runners trying to save time.

So you want your job made easier by making someone elses job harder. If the item has not got back to the office, or its been misfiled, or its been put out for redelivery its a lot easier to track it down with the Barcode number.Tuffers1875 wrote:Write the address in the part where it says address. Re: Tracked Items Barcode.
Managers are there to monitor the way things are done and to ensure that postmen and postwomen are following rules and regulations or whatever constitutes good quality of service from the office/RM and customer's point of view...
From time to time we gets threats of 3 strikes and then some sort of censure. But managers are too scare or do not want to open can of worms especially when it comes to being consistent and fair to all. And scared of the Union - I think?
We have had a few briefing on how to fill the P739 and people seems to fell patronised when we have these meetings but then the same mistakes (often deliberate) are made week in week out.
Writing the barcode is a ball ache especially with a bundle in hand and packet in the other or balanced on something - (and the MC contributor should note that when he starts asking that absolutely all parcels should be tracked). However, it is important to some customers - at least they know what item they are expecting when they get to the depot and they can feel assured that the sender has sent their item - to be collected at their own leisure...

Re: Tracked Items Barcode.
It wont matter in a while anyway, everything will be barcoded when it's returned and then put into the computer and stored by the day they come in..........nice and complicated system to replace the simple system we have at the minute.
