Royal Mail is opening 10 temporary parcel sort centres across the UK for the expected Christmas rush

The centres are being set up for the fourth consecutive year. They will sort a significant proportion of the parcels Royal Mail handles during the busy Christmas period before they are distributed around the UK and delivered to the door by Royal Mail’s postmen and women

The parcel sort centres are in Bathgate in West Lothian, Leeds, Middleton in Greater Manchester, Llantrisant in South Wales, Swindon, Greenford, Peterborough, Wolverhampton and Milton Keynes. There will also be an international parcel sort centre based at Heathrow All centres will open on a phased basis from 3rd November

Around 4,000 seasonal workers will be based in the ten temporary parcel sort centres, part of the 19,000 seasonal recruitment already announced
Royal Mail is opening ten temporary parcel sort centres for the Christmas period as part of its festive operation.

The parcel sort centres are being set up to sort a significant proportion of the parcels Royal Mail handles before they are distributed around the UK and delivered to the door by Royal Mail’s postmen and women.

The seasonal workers will support Royal Mail’s permanent 124,000 postmen and women who sort and deliver the mail all year round, including Christmas which is the busiest time of the year for the postal service.

This is the fourth year that Royal Mail has opened a dedicated network of parcel sort centres. The use of additional temporary parcel sort centres is now an integral part of Royal Mail’s substantial financial commitment in additional resources at Christmas operation to handle the festive mail bag.

The parcel sort centres are in Bathgate in West Lothian, Leeds, Middleton in Greater Manchester, Wolverhampton, Llantrisant in South Wales, Swindon, Greenford, Peterborough and Milton Keynes. The centres will open on a phased basis from 3rd November.
