It will do next year when they start to use it as a means of tracking your position, using it to test your pace and god knows what else.

same as what most ppl are saying,,,,,the scanners arnt fit for purpose the battery life are awful.
were watching tnt/whistl scanning virtually everything they post through doors in front of us,,,,i do a couple of scans and im at low battery

How can the union bods who agreed this trial not KNOW that our PDAs are absolute rubbish, not up to the job? Are the union hierarchy really that out of touch ?

Time needs to be built in to the indoor work as well. The office guys have to scan everything and we posties have to account for the tracked (keeping them separate like any other tracked items)... Also time will be spent in MC to process. I hope RM is costing all these...
The problem as highlighted is the useless PDA - too bulky for a walking postman, battery life on most is now not good enough for the amount of usage, it crashes, it goes to the phone, it locks up requiring a pin, and it has too many functions for a walking delivery postman.
With all these demands, RM and the CWU tends not to factor in the fact that we are delivery postmen are being measured against people that simply delivery parcels including Parcel Force and the rest. We do have letters and load of other documents/items and d2ds to delivery as well as the parcels from Amazon and many others.

Will Amazon bypass the MC and deliver straight to delivery offices as was trialled the other month? From what i've read it won't be Royal Mail tracked as such but a special product for Amazon and only in certain areas, it might be a case of scanning Amazons own barcode which is on every parcel? Perhaps the new scanning equipment will be trialled at the same time?
