In the agreement it states the majority of reserves who want Saturdays off can have it off, what's the majority?

Reserves are entitled to the same number of Saturdays as the rest of the staff whether 1 in 6 or 1 in 4. Some good advice already given. I would also contact Moya's office via the justsayit email. I tried it on a seperate issue and it was resolved.

This is something like the reply you would get back....

Good Afternoon Sidney/Eric....

I am sorry ;liar to hear that you are having difficulty in getting your one in six, one in four long weekends. I have completed my investigations and the problem lies with resourcing issues in your office. I have spoken to the DSM and DOM and they are confident ;liar that once staffing levels are back to an adequate level it will enable the majority of reserves to take the long weekends ;liar for which they are entitled, please don't hesitate to contact me if you need further assistance.

Kind regards

You should get the same number of Saturdays off as the rest of the office.

If you feel you are being treated unfairly, then use the grievance procedure.
Even the union in my office agree and say floaters don't get Saturdays off, I get ever Tues, wed off and havent had a Saturday off for over a year

In my experience the Union look after full time duty holders. The rest of us get pro rata benefits negotiated on their behalf. If reserves got regular weekends off the full timers and duty holders would miss out on extra weekends off using lieu days or reserves to cover. The managers, unions and duty holders are quite happy for the reserves to get shafted if it means they benefit. If all the reserves stopped paying the union quoting the lack of benefits. Then maybe they'd take note. But I doubt it.

In my experience a trade union looks after all the workers, regardless of their contracted hours, or even union status.

A trade union official who fails to do that has ceased to be a trade unionist.

page 25 of b.t. 2010 clearly states " rm and cwu commit to achieving at least 1 in 4 saturdays off for the majority of employees including reserves".if you are in the cwu get your rep to check it out

Much of the commitments in BT2010 are no longer valid given the completely different position the business is in now. Unfortunately reps have to concentrate on protecting jobs now and members have to understand that some of the aspirations of that agreement are not going to be met or will change shortly. Many of the revisions that were implemented in the last 4 years did not meet the 1 in 4 aspiration simply because it would have cost too many full time jobs.

Next to go will be As part of the operational transformation the vast majority of full time delivery duties will start no later than 0700. ...if it hasn't already.
