Seven in ten online shoppers want Sunday delivery

Most people want goods they order on the internet to be delivered on a Sunday, according to a new report.

Research of the logistics industry by Barclays found that seven out of 10 consumers wanted Sunday deliveries, while a third of firms were interested in the idea.

A survey of 50 retailers and logistics companies showed that a major cause of concern was consumers not being at home to receive a delivery


Around half of 2,000 consumers polled for the same report said they would order more products online if delivery services were improved.

Mike Rigby, head of manufacturing, transport and logistics at Barclays, said: 'A competitive and growing delivery market is an exciting place to be at present.

Where there is growth, there is opportunity and the real winners will be those who invest in technology and innovation.

'The evolving dynamic between retailers offering a range of delivery options and consumers demanding more flexible delivery methods is an interesting one.

'However, the predicted growth over the next few years clearly highlights that the opportunities are there for those operators who carefully reassess their delivery strategy and continue to innovate and invest in fulfilling the all-important 'last mile'.'

The report predicted that the number of deliveries is expected to increase by 40% in 2018 to 1.3 billion.

things started to go down hill when super markets opened up on sundays. now with the internet and nearly all big chain shops opening on a sunday, the idea of going to church and having a lazy sunday is for a very few of us.

But most people work a 35 hour week Monday to Friday and aren't the least concerned about those less fortunate working in supermarkets or delivering goods they order on the internet on a Sunday while they just .
