All the energy companies use the existing infastructure to supply energy to us, very similar scenario.

If the current rate of traffic loss to TNT in the areas they currently cover continues then the USO will not survive.

This is why we have to make off comm act.

So how do we make Ofcom act??

They are not listening. Ofcom say TNT don't "currently" have a significant share in the postal market; yet by your accounts TNT are trying to take over the UK!! And do they really care about Royal Mail's Universal Service Obligation with the 'one price goes anywhere' or are they more concerned with the fact that if people want it, they can jolly well pay for it??

When Postcomm liberalised the postal market to end Royal Mail's monopoly in 2006 it was because Royal Mail had managed to turn itself around and post quite substantial profits. It was said to be self-sustainable and when the government realised this they soon wanted rid of it (like all other nationalised industries of the past). Even the CWU said then that the USO would be under threat with a two tier postal system - 1st class for the rich, business city dwellers and quite another class for everyone else. Ain't that the truth.

You know, I bet the goddamn Dutch and German post offices must be rubbing their hands with glee as they have really strong protection in their own countries; whilst over here they are allowed to compete head on with us, and cherry pick all our best routes! Who's to say our daft government has probably even given them a grant (like foreign car manufacturers) to set up new centres because they are recruiting our labour! Im just joking obviously, but its true that its politics which is destroying our postal service. All this while Royal Mail, our staff and customers will surely be left to ruin....

And btw I don't know what will force Ofcom to act other than a review of Ofcom itself.....

You say you're only joking but I'm sure I did hear hear somewhere that TNT are receiving some kind of grant or subsidy as they are a 'new employer' creating 'new jobs'
