Posties had an unexpected delivery when they found three illegal immigrants hiding in the back of a lorry.

The surprise discovery at Parcelforce in Coventry was made in a vehicle containing post at around 5am on Friday.

Workers at the Baginton depot were shocked to find the asylum seekers hiding behind sacks of letters when they opened up the lorry.

Police were called to the depot and they alerted Home Office immigration officers.

Three men, believed to be two Syrians and an Iraqi, were arrested and remained in custody over the weekend where they were interviewed by immigration officials.

If they are found to have no legal right to remain in the country the Home Office said it will take action to remove them.

Earlier this year it was announced that Syrians living legally in the UK would be able to remain here for longer in light of the conflict in the region.

Entry rules have been toughened up though meaning anyone attempting to enter the UK illegally faces a tough battle to remain.

A Home Office spokesman said: "We work closely with the police to tackle illegal immigration and continue to strengthen the security of our border to stop those who have no right to enter the UK.

"The new Immigration Act makes it harder for people to live in the UK illegally.

"It makes it harder for illegal immigrants to abuse our benefits and public services, and makes it easier for us to remove them by reducing the number of appeals."

Quick one, if you have illegals in your van, do you get fined for them ? being so far in the UK I wouldn't think so, that said what about van security anyway, its quite worrying that they are able to get in.

If it I wouldn't own up as I would only get fined for being too honest, I would let them go in the countryside and then anonymously phone the Police about suspicious people hanging round an open field.

Van security will depend on the actual vehicle.
A trucker on the radio yesterday said they can quietly open the back, cut a hole in the top or negotiate the 'curtain' side and that although scanners can detect movement as small as a heartbeat in the back not all vehicles are scanned.
