Change your wedding to match your AL. Ask to swop with someone with that time off

Sounds like you want to have your wedding cake AND eat it.
How come annual holidays for 2016 are booked now when it is still 2014. and why aren't you planning the two together. If you think something as important as a wedding isn't worth giving up A/L for then you are off to a bad start.

You try to book YOUR leave when YOU want it - and get a slip of paper back saying "LEAVE FULL - Pick another "

Somebody else will go in and get the period YOU want off!

You then ask why THEY got it and you didn't*, and they can't give you an answer!!!!

Because leave selection can't go on seniority as per the Way Forward Agreement (I think). In line with that agreement everyone should have the same chance to pick their leave, so thats why a 5 year can beat a 20 year man.

However, from what you posted it sounds as though your leave selection process is not up muster, why not get the Union to hold a meeting and come up with a new and fairer process that's fit for purpose.

Leave is in annual rotated summer slot so I already know my leave will fall in July, my chosen wedding venue is already booked up on those dates. Just wondered if anyone knew of any way I could get my leave changed due to the circumstances rather than having to trawl around the office looking for a swap 2 years in advance.

Maybe check with your chosen wedding venue to check if you can book those dates in 2017 then check with your fiancé that she doesn't mind putting it off for a year

Prior to annual leave signing, the line manager in operational units, will have discretion to grant specific requests for particular periods of leave from individual employees based on their exceptional and unavoidable personal circumstances.

So you go and see your DOM, tell them what you want and why, and they grant you the leave.
If they don't you use the grievance procedure.

The DOM can argue what he likes but f he has to sit in front of his superiors and explain why he won't grant someone leave for their wedding, he won't be a happy bunny.
Unless they all have hearts of stone, in which case I would consider contacting a local journalist. The negative publicity won't amuse them.

If the suggestions above fail, Special Leave (Unpaid) is your friend. Take your normal 6 weeks when you're given them then have another couple off on top.
