Nth London temporary sorting centre

Anybody pick up on that news-flash on 5Live ? re: the temporary sorting centre in North London. Apparently been operating for a week staffed by 1000 casuals

Edit: initial reports somewhat qualified. RM claim this is just a long standing overspill site that is currently staffed by 6 managers.

The news is moving pretty quickly at the mo'

I heard about this from one of our Area reps this morning. If this centre is being operated with casual labour then Royal Mail are breaking the law. If they are using current employees (managers, strike breakers etc) then they are not. Could we set up a picket outside this place??

'fraid not - 'flying pickets' went under Thatchers union legislation, which incidently new liebour had a commitment to repeal back in '97 I believe.

How much is that load of bollox costing? Bearing in mind that it costs approx Â£15ph, & they say they ain't got no money! 1,000 CASUALS X 8 HOUR SHIFT @15PH =Â£120,000 YOU GOTTA BE JOKING!!!

doesn't stop any local posties taking a look during strike days to see if they recognise anyone going in. . . . . you can't stop them, or even talk to them but it would be nice just to know wouldn't it

Re: the 1000 casuals - The facts are a bit difficult to come by in this instance. My initial post was based on a news flash which was subsequently qualified, and I edited my post to reflect this.
I have no idea what the reality of the situation is at this particular location.
Having said that, RM have used loopholes to circumvent the law regarding strike-breaking labour - The evidence at my MC is testament to that.

Lets hope these casuals have been vetted, or anything goes missing etc, we all know who will get the blame
