n the first half of 2014, the global postal industry registered year-on- year revenue growth of 2.3%1, according to analysis published today by International Post Corporation (IPC).

Revenue growth continues to be driven by the growth in e-Commerce sales in all world regions as well as increased diversification efforts by posts. Parcel and express revenue2 grew by 4.8% compared to the first half of 2013. This confirms the key importance of e-Commerce as a strong growth opportunity for posts worldwide.

Herbert-Michael Zapf, President and CEO of IPC says: “Posts are uniquely positioned to play a bigger role on the e-Commerce market, which is growing at a double-digit pace, as they can reach every customer. But posts need to develop features that make them more successful in this area and increase their share of e-Commerce related revenue. IPC is supporting them in this effort through the Interconnect programme, providing them with the technical backbone to offer their customers a seamless network for international e-Commerce.”

Traditional mail revenue3 remained stable compared to the first half of 2013, which confirms a slow- down of the decline of mail revenue. This can be explained in part by the renewed interest for direct mail in marketing campaigns. Efforts by posts to control operational costs are reflected in the EBIT margin of 9.2% for traditional mail.
