I know of such incidents as well. However I believe that some kind of risk assessment has to be carried out, whereby the DOM, or whoever has to visit your premises to assess the risk. You then have to sign some kind of disclaimer I think ,promising on scouts honour not to go clubbing in it on a Saturday night,or shopping on a Sunday. Mind you when the neighbours have stopped laughing ,you will probably not want it on your driveway.GT750rider wrote:Someone I know was caught doing just that, and told not to do It again. Re: the guidelines for taking a van home
Didn't think you could take van home for obvious reasons.
Your office might bend the rules a little BUT just hope they can face the consequences if the van got vandalised or damaged; and then of course there is the obvious reason why a van's log book needs to be completed - so they can keep track of the vans mileage and ensure it is not abused by staff
Its not really a smart move; it would be far better if they got someone to pick him up but failing that it would be his responsibility to get to and from work

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Re: the guidelines for taking a van home
In the taunton office all drivers have had to sign a document to say they will not take a van home as we have been told we are not insured , we know in other offices the managers let staff take vans home overnight but our local manager has made this rule & we had to sign it so if we get caught I suppose we will be in big big trouble

Re: the guidelines for taking a van home
Also, when our office was undertaking re-building work managers told us not to come in our cars because the yard was going to be for vans only
They told us we had to pay for our car parking near the post office; or simply find alternative transport
Luckily, the yard is still big enough for a few cars. I don't think the managers could realistically enforce a no car parking policy on royal mail grounds for posties when managers still come in their cars. However, when i say this it could all change next week.....

Not at all the case that "Your office might bend the rules a little" it clearly states in the "Overnight Retention of Vehicles policy" the correct procedures for regularly taking a van home.postslippete wrote:Didn't think you could take van home for obvious reasons.

Royal Mail doesn't have more vans overnight than it's got parking spaces for.
We don't need to use, and pay for, our own car or public transport to and from work.
Just about the only good thing that's happened with Royal Mail these past few years.

Re: the guidelines for taking a van home
Its ok I found it on the royalmailchat forums for four years ago
http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... =6&t=28616" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The office can 'follow' (not bend!! lol) the rules to allow postal workers to take vans home BUT only if they have insufficient space for all the vans in their yard. Yes, that makes sense.
Anyway, you mean it DOES have more vans overnight than its's got parking spaces for!! lol
Its a shame as i wish i could take the van home; it would surely save on my petrol. But none of our managers like this idea for obvious reasons...
