Glasgow honours mail centre learning reps

Five Glasgow learning reps were presented with People Make Glasgow - Inspiring City Awards last week in recognition of their work at the city's mail centre.
Callum McLennan, Scott Taylor, Allan Summers, Willie Ferry and Derek Frizzle were announced winners in the prestigious Education Category, after being nominated by the STUC's Scottish Union Learning organisation.

With the support of the CWU regional learning committee, the five ULRs operate the Key2Learn Centre within the site and they recently all achieved the professional development qualification PDA, which enables them to set up and deliver their own learning programmes and reduce their reliance on outside agencies.

ULRs Glasgow Two of the learning reps, Alan Summers and Scott Taylor, have already developed their own courses in Political Song Writing and Family History respectively.

CWU Scotland regional secretary John Brown said: "Very well done and congratulations to our five learning reps on their richly deserved award, they've done a fantastic job and they've stimulated a lot of learning in the mail centre.

"Providing learning opportunities to people at work is hugely important and our union has a proud record of hard work, dedication and achievement in workplace learning."

Trish Lavelle CWU head of education and training, Trish Lavelle, added her congratulations and said: "I am thoroughly impressed on a daily basis with the enthusiasm, innovation and sheer hard graft of CWU Union Learning Reps. Each year learning reps like Willie, Scott, Callum, Allan and Derek make a huge difference to the lives of thousands of our members. The Glasgow Mail Centre Learning Centre has been a real success story for the CWU and this award is fantastic recognition of the talented ULRs of the Glasgow and District Amal Branch."
