Coincidentally I saw my first RM torch today,
There is an old one on ebay .
£25 + P+P.
Sold by 100fishies ........

It's a monstrosity. The one I saw in the DO was a flat rectangular plastic one. The eBay one is metal and looks like it takes 'D' cells. The dim yellow light would be useless. For longevity of batteries and better light LED ones should be issued.

You seen it here first, might take a wee bit of time but that is what RM are wanting, oh and the USO can do one too cos it will cost too much and if Scotland get independence more money will be needed to keep them afloat as little revenue is generated up there
If this happens why not make it Mon-Fri,then all those that play or watch sport and other events come to think of it would be happy.I can't see not delivering to firms on a Monday is any good as most of the firms that I used to deliver to were not open on a Saturday and didn't have letter boxes or anywhere safe to leave the mail.

But more people are at home on Saturday than Monday to receive parcels so Tuesday to Saturday it will be  And it's of no consequence whether any of us want to play or watch sport and other events.

Correct. I believe that was Chicken Licken who hasn't posted on here for a while .......
And what became of chicken licken?
The problem that I have with this thread is the assumption that it will be full time ie,8 till 4,Its probably more like 8 til 1 or 9 till 2, Full time work would probably be a bit earlier prepping the part time jobs a bit of sorting etc, and there wont be many of them.
I know who the fox in the chicken licken reminds me of.

No assumption genesis - from Dingo:
dingo wrote:Fish is correct , Royal Mail"s key strategy for the future is to move to one pass meaning that you will not get a wave 1 sequencing mail but all 100% later than your current wave 2 arrival. Considering that mech mail makes up approx 70% of your overall mail then they believe that no one would need to start before your mail arrives.

Clearly this is a game changer and would remove all improved duty structures , stop any extra hours a part timer may be working and reduce the ratio of full time jobs on a huge scale. The CWU have informed Royal Mail that the CWU will not support the roll out of one pass as it will make the job security agreement null and void. National talks are continuing.
This means that there won't be any mail in the office for FTs to do a bit of sorting or prepping. Although you are right that it will probably decimate FT positions.

So where do we stand on the terms and conditions agreement ,because on another recent thread dingo stated we have a legal agreement that cannot be changed, whereas the prevous post indicates it will be null and void.

In another thread, he says the union has opposed any trials of one pass.
Now if RM seriously wants to implement the change, (and why wouldn't they) then there is an industrial relations framework to go through and mediation etc.
The renegotiation of MTSF in January will be interesting.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Starting a delivery in the dark is far easier than finishing one in the dark from a fatigue point of view, especially for drivers, It is also far more likely you will run into drunks and anti-social behaviour in the late afternoon/evening than early morning, These assumptions are borne out by the fact that as a percentage far more collection drivers suffer attacks than delivery officers.

However this issue of a single wave sequence model will not only change your start finish times but more importantly affect the entire resourcing model of the business and not in a good way.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

and what about people who have kids to pick up from school etc,,, its going to be a gamechanger for them. I can see people quitting the job if this goes through.

Why will it reduce the number of full time jobs if they just change start times to later i.e from 06.30 to 08.00?

Less time sorting will mean less full time jobs presumably.

Why would there be less sorting time? In my office all the ips is done by full timers,30 to 40 minutes each day.Who will do it if the full timers don't ?

Currently full timers are employed on a 39 hour contract and most work a 5 day week. If you start in the future at say 9 o clock because you have one pass and none of that work is in your office and you have no manual work till because the professional drivers no long have a night shift because there is now just one wave of sequencing work.

There is a last letter agreed with of com of 3pm for towns and cities and 4 for rural areas.

So on 5 day weeks that means you have 6 hour duty which over 5 days 30 hours. It would be difficult to have less than 5 day attendances under those circumstances and I have not even mentioned short days like monday and tuesday.

That is the issue with one pass it is a total game changer.
