Hornsey sorting office closes despite strong opposition

A sorting office will open for the last time on Sunday despite strong opposition to its closure.

The Royal Mail will move its Hornsey sorting office to the Bush Industrial Estate in Tufnell Park.

More than 1,000 residents protested against planned move, with Hornsey and Wood Green MP Lynne Featherstone calling the move "unacceptable".

Monday marks the first day of the Royal Mail's new delivery service to Hornsey addresses.

The postal company said it will deliver parcels between 7am and 9am, but only if requested by the recipient and if the first delivery attempt failed.

Customers can also choose to collect their parcel from the new office in the Bush Industrial Estate, Tufnell Park, which Royal Mail say will have longer opening hours than the Hornsey office.

The group will also trial Sunday deliveries of parcels sent from London businesses from September.

Mike Devanny, Royal Mail delivery director for north London, said: “We are working very hard to ensure this office move does not have any impact on the high quality service we are committed to maintain to our customers in the Hornsey area.”
