Re: Renationalised scottish r mail .
Judging by the amount of Scots there's been in Westminster, "too stupid" is clearly not applicable.Interesting gives us an idea how Tman view us north of the border .Too wee, too poor, too stupid to govern ourselves....
In the meantime, you've voted, so now it's time to come in wash your hands, get some tea then a half hour on the Playstation before bed time...

Yep, I voted and I lost and except the result but,I take heart in fact that the biggest region Glasgow doesn't want to be a part of the UK.....Tory's will vote these new powers down that Brown has promised them..I can then see things getting very nasty...but anyway this is a thread about a Scottish renationalised Royal Mail, it ain't happening, when are the cuts coming???????????

Lets be honest cyrus, it really wasn't a realistic proposition. Salmond can wallow in nationalism for ever and a day - but it's never going to happen. He should do the honourable thing and resign rather than accept the decision as final rather than a suggestion that there is going to be another referendum or should we say an ad infinitum.cyrus wrote:Yep, I voted and I lost and except the result but,I take heart in fact that the biggest region Glasgow doesn't want to be a part of the UK.....Tory's will vote these new powers down that Brown has promised them..I can then see things getting very nasty...but anyway this is a thread about a Scottish renationalised Royal Mail, it ain't happening, when are the cuts coming???????????

Salmond has resigned. This surprises me.dvbuk55 wrote:Lets be honest cyrus, it really wasn't a realistic proposition. Independence was insanity but it came alarmingly close to sudden reality. And nationalism is not a busted flush. The no vote bought some relief but this was a pyrrhic victory. Nationalism has got a boost from the referendum ,a lot of people have joined and are promoting their cause and there is a palpable sense of a renewed Scottish identity, with a strengthened parliament which is becoming more like a government.
I had expected Salmond to continue , enjoy his additional powers , conflict with Westminster, and to work on the momentum of his cause, but just when they needed him most he has gone.
For the union I see the no vote as a stay of execution rather than a reprieve, very much hope I am wrong.

Well, there you go. Even he sees the futility of a never ending promise of nationalism. Anyone with a modicum of intelligence could see that it was going to be NO. The surprise is so many were taken in by rambling rhetoric without one shred of a palpable answer to the important questions being raised. The European question, the monetary question, how devolution would be carried out, how long would oil revenues last, what proportion of the national debt would Scotland be responsible for, the loss of jobs, particularly on the Clyde and Alecs response "scaremongering, scaremongering, bullying, misguided" not one point raised, answered. No, Alec is a polished politician given to high blown ideas without any substance. Good riddance to him and by the time a new referendum is voiced the spotty 16 year olds will be middle aged and have some sense.walrus wrote:Salmond has resigned. This surprises me. Yes it has been an embarrassment. Point is you cant just let nationalism out the box and then shut it away. Already constitution is crumbling, talk of an English parliament, and its all talk of "the English", "the scots", "the welsh" etc and I believe that a rise of nationalism is inevitable and not just in Scotland. All as a direct result of the politically driven decision to create parliaments in Scotland and Wales. Again only hope I am mistaken.

Re: Renationalised scottish r mail .
Well had it been a boxing match with two protagonists Cameron won. Salmond will be playing the sympathy card and trying to inflict on the scots that an independent Scotland is still a possibility - it may be - but not in his lifetime nor mine.Chelseablue wrote:Cameron should also walk . The renewed arguments re "nationalism" are a nine-day wonder.
Sure, the Welsh etc will make noises but it'll all go back to normality quickly enough. It doesn't affect the very day lives of most people, thankfully.

Re: Renationalised scottish r mail .
If there is an English parliament, a Scots parliament and a Welsh parliament hungry for additional powers they will increasingly resemble independent governments. The next holyrood elections will likely be a resounding success for the nationalists as the Edinburgh government increasingly eclipses Westminster. So as Salmond has been saying there are different paths to independence .Tman wrote:The renewed arguments re "nationalism" are a nine-day wonder.

This has divided people big time up here and the nationalist poison has spread far and wide. This is a stay of execution no more.

Re: Renationalised scottish r mail .
Possibly, but all the time Westminster is holding the purse strings, and with the diversion of a general election campaign in the near future, plus a back bench (and a groundswell of English opinion) revolt over promising the Jocks sweeties for misbehaving, things aren't going to change that much, whatever Oily MacSmug and Mary Hen may whine about from the sidelines.
Clearly the nationalism debate isn't over, but how much it/they will realistically achieve to that end is open to debate, especially when blue faces and bag pipes aren't on TV every waking minute reminding the Great Unwashed of what so nearly happened...
