33 Main Road Romford RM1 3DL???

Post by vnewson »

Hi
I was asked to go and register for xmas work from Royal Mail at Romford, but when I booked on the appointment slots the location was for 33 Main Road, Romford RM1 3DL. Is this where registration take place as I notice its a hotel and its not the address of Romford Royal Mail???
Thanks

This will be more of an admin and form filling thing, as you say Registration, and hopefully working out which actual shift/position you will be working in. It will potentially be a session covering applicants for several RM units (mail centres, delivery offices, etc etc) within the local(ish) area. Actual induction and training for the job you'll be doing will happen nearer the christmas start time (at the place where you will be working).

Certainly this was what happened when I went in as a casual several years ago; I was just one of several waves of applicants sent to a local civic hall where forms were run through, things photocopied and my shift decided upon. That happened in september and then I didn't get called into the mail centre (just 5 mins up the road, as it happened) for training until late november and then I started a couple of days later.

Hope this helps! :nana

What type of thing are you going for - indoor mail centre type work or deliveries?

Oh I see, I wondered why it was a different address. Late November is quite late, so it could ony be a months works couldnt it?
I did put down deliveries or mail sorting. But think I would probaby just do mail sorting, I know postman have to walk miles a day and dont know if I could do that!
Thanks for your help!

You might be posted to a delivery office, but you won't be put out on delivery. It's just not worth the hassle of training someone up for a few weeks work.

Mail sorting is, obviously, no where near as physically taxing as pounding the streets, but if you're not used to being on your feet for long periods of time your feet will need some time to adjust. It's not a huge barrier to overcome, but most people struggle a little to start with.

Xmas casual contracts typically last 3-5 weeks. The exception being the coders, I think, who are bought in a bit earlier to go through their training.
