Press Assoc. - 21 minutes agoThe Royal Mail has taken legal action in a bid to prevent fresh strikes by postal workers.

The organisation went to the High Court in London in a bid to seek an injunction to halt planned national walkouts next week.
The Communication Workers' Union (CWU) has announced a series of rolling strikes from Monday, starting with mail staff, which will cripple post deliveries across the UK. Sources said the Royal Mail was trying to prevent strikes planned for Monday and Tuesday.
The move came as both sides in the increasingly bitter dispute continued to hold talks in a bid to resolve the row over pay, jobs and pensions.
Wildcat strikes continued in London and Liverpool and spread to parts of Scotland as fresh disputes broke out following two 48-hour official strikes last week.
Mail deliveries were badly affected in the areas where the unofficial strikes were held, although Royal Mail said most of its staff were now back at work.
Royal Mail chief executive Adam Crozier met union leaders for several hours on Thursday and the meeting was adjourned just before midnight.
The two sides met again on Friday at the TUC headquarters in central London and the negotiations were continuing despite Royal Mail deciding to take legal action.
A Royal Mail spokesman said: "In the interests of customers, we have to do all we reasonably can to get the mail delivered."
It is understood Royal Mail will claim that the notification by the union of next week's strikes was flawed. The union is believed to have instructed its solicitors to defend the legal action.
I don't care I'll not be at work next Tuesday and if they are successful in the High court today then I'll not be in tomorrow :cfo :lfo

Re: SMOKESCREEN
the london SW branch had it's own ballot over later starts..this is what would be stated and is a local issue and is not part of the national disput/ballot..lovejoy wrote:There is nothing wrong with the notice i hear. Royal Mail are using that to make the union look silly. It is the unofficial stuff that is causing the problems! Royal Mail are saying the issues people have walked for are part of the national dispute therefore it annuls the ballot and they can attack our funds. Lets wait and see!!!meweavy wrote:dogfood wrote:If the 7 days notice has not been served surely this would only effect Mondays action which could be withdrawn and recommenced on the following Monday.
As posted earlier desperate measures by desperate men who have no way of saving face.
As I have always said the indefensible is just that and as long as we all hold out this will eventually become apparent to the two tw*ts.
Typical bully boy tactics when someone stand up to bully, the bully runs of crying to his daddy. In this case some doddering old c*nt with a wig.that last bit was funny.
the wildcat strikes can be attributed to that..

Current national strikes were for a pay rise, its management as usual that attached all its conditions.the london SW branch had it's own ballot over later starts..this is what would be stated and is a local issue and is not part of the national disput/ballot..
the wildcat strikes can be attributed to that..
None of the wildcat strikes are because we dont accept the pay rise on offer.

Re: SMOKESCREEN
I am on unofficial action. Our choice was to let our fellow posties strike on their own or come out in support as we would want them to do for us. we came out in support even though our start times hadn't been changed.strangler wrote:I hope those that are applauding unofficial action have read the above....lovejoy wrote:There is nothing wrong with the notice i hear. Unfortunatly there are laws against such basic human solidarity - I wonder why?
Is it perhaps because these laws which Labour has kept over from Thatcher werebrought in
exactly to weaken the working class and allow management to get away with exactly the
kind of attacks we are now facing?
Anyway, RM has as far as I know rarely used the anti-strike laws against unofficial strikes in the past. This is despite there having been numerous such strikes - remember the one in 2003? - RM backed down in the face of a wildcat that started in london and was going nationsl. The reason they have rarely used these laws is i think because they knew it would inflame the situation. If they take this route now its because they are desperate - our only response must be to stand together and support each other. If they get a judge to declare the official dispute unlawful we should call their bluff and all strike anyway. Don't let them divide us. RM and the government are the enemy not your fellow posties.
