Royal Mail van driver taken to hospital after car smash

A Royal Mail van driver was taken to hospital after a heavy collision with a car in Aldershot on Monday.

The collision, which ripped a wheel from one the car and left debris across the road, occurred just before midday in Ash Road, at the junction with Brighton Road, and involved the red van and a black Ford Fiesta.

Both drivers sustained injuries - the Fiesta driver, a woman in her 20s, suffering minor chest pain and shock, and the Royal Mail employee, a woman in her 50s, suffering with an injury to her back.

She was taken to Frimley Park Hospital as a priority patient.

The road was temporarily closed and police officers were at the scene dealing with the incident until around 1.20pm.

Royal Mail spokesperson Sally Hopkins said the company was investigating the incident.

"There was no mail in the van at the time and there was no disruption to our service to customers," she said.

She added that she understood the van driver was taken to hospital only as a precaution.

Well that's alright then , at least we have our priorities right , mail , vehicles and the oh yeah the humans

Looks like the RM van overtook a stationary vehicle on their side of the road (hence why it's so near to the divider line) and the fiesta kept going and they hit eacother.

I believe if that's the case the fiesta had right of way.

Questionable, but whatever the right of way the smaller fiesta must have been going relatively quite fast to have had the momentum to cause that much damage to itself with so little coming to the big heavy van.

Also just ask an insurance company where the balance of probabilty lies in an accident between a middle aged person and a young (18-25) driver
