Erm, not all of them apparently he's saving a few up to see if he can stretch the pay off beyond the 30k this time.

Allegations of “blunders and deliberate abuses” within the communications industry union

The Communication Workers’ Union is on the “verge of a financial meltdown” as allegations from members have surfaced of “outrageous abuses” of money, according to documents seen by Londonlovesbusiness.com.

Wonder if it was true and if any legal action was taken :hmmmm

hours cut is definitely happening now, next will be FT staff retirement replaced with PT staff who accept that the management can fill in and do an half assed job to say they've cleared and then feel macho by doing 1-2 hours walk and say its easy
every single day they are doing our jobs, happens here & quite a few delivery offices by the look of it

SAYE v Union Subs is really a choice to be made by each individual as a financial decision. A bit like buying life insurance for something that might not happen during the term of the policy but would be financially destroying to the family if such an event took place and the policy had not been taken out. I have always worked on the basis that any money spare (I know thats a joke these days) first and foremost must protect against unforeseen events that could be financially destructive to my family, and once these have been taken care of then future financial security can take up any excess. So I see this in the same light. CWU subs give me peace of mind in as much that they offer a level of protection against the unforeseen. SAYE is a nice thing to have if you have any spare cash but will not be detrimental to me or my family if I do not have any.

Saying that I am with DVB when it comes to the role that the CWU should be playing for its members and Dingo and the rest of the PEC should take a long look at themselves when it comes to taking the simplistic argument that Royal Mail are portraying in respect of the harsh environment that they are operating under, and perhaps for once before it is too late, start getting to grips with the bombardment of abuse that our members are dealing with daily, and the total disregard that managers of all grades have in respect of delivery methods, failure to co-ordinate fair Annual Leave rotas, and failure to deal with Managers carrying out CWU members jobs because there is still not 100% compliance with properly planned resourcing meetings.

My real concern is that some members maybe from poor communication or simply not wanting to believe that this industry is in a crisis that comes along to an industry perhaps every 100 years. The dock industry , the print industry , the mining industry and the car industry have seen similar periods which have changed those industries for ever.

Look at Royal Mail when I first started 30 years ago we had no competitors and there was no emails , no internet and no mobile phones.

Now 50% of Royal Mails upstream market which was the profitable part is now done by competitors including TNT. So less then 10 years 50% of the revenue has gone.

Stamp Mail is down and let's be clear the general public does not see posting letters as a significant part of their life's anymore. Advertising Mail has increased but most members don't see any benefit in the growth of d2d.

The growth in parcels market has great competition and Royal Mails technology is lagging behind all the others by years. Where the likes of Amazon and Asos want tracked and delivery to neighbour service we are lagging behind. Amazon want and are demanding going straight to delivery offices or inward Mail centres.

We have TNT who are taking 20% of the end to end market of offices where they are deployed and leaving Royal Mail have to serve areas which are more costly and remote whilst losing Mail in the high density area.

We have a regulator who is comparing us on cost when clearly we pay high wages and benefits.

Royal Mail are just cutting costs without any vision for the future hence the new strategy of going to one pass.

So I do think that maybe some of the membership do not realise the dire straights we are in and some are in offices which may have seen growth in some Mail streams.

Over an above this thou is things like MTSF review in January 2015 with Royal Mail want to reduce costs. Royal Mail have not grown as they predicted in the mails market and in fact they have lost significant Amazon traffic.

So it's very easy to criticise the CWU but we are dealing with both The regulator and Royal Mail who are under huge pressure to reduce cost.

There is no magic wand which cures the problems we face.in any other industry facing what we are facing we would have seen complusory redundancies , outsourcing of work , reductions in pay and allowances , more casuals and a two tier workforce.

Anyone who thinks they are better off outside of the CWU at the moment must be mad as we are on a roller coaster of various changes and demands.
please do not quote we in your statements unless of course you may happen to reside in london

Think we've had the latest with the loss of collection duties and I forget what the other was when it was firstly said there was no agreement then the PEC had obviously had a vision on the way to Damascus and the next thing you know it is agreed. Now we have the Sunday callers and delivery - supposedly "on trial" but when I asked how long the trial was for was told it was forever - even though it had only been for one Sunday  Must be the shortest trial I've ever heard of.

Basically if you are full-time - stay in the union, you will be looked after. If you are part-time don't bother with the union as you will get totally screwed over and ignored. I love been forced to work every Saturday.

Put your money in the SAYE scheme.

Some of us have been full-time on temp contracts for over 3 years, when will they be made permanent??

It would be nice for the CWU to work with Royal Mail on a localised level and get it in writing...

And dingo....you sound like a senior manager at Royal Mail. Yes, im aware its a tough position but the picture is not as black as you painted. You mention about our competitors but don't forget that we have lost over 50,000 staff in the last decade which means that our current posties are working harder than ever before!!

We are not a one-trick pony like countless other courier companies who deliver just parcels. We deliver everything! And because of online retailing the amount of parcels we deliver has now increased to over 1 billion (royalmailgroup.com). And while addressed mail volumes may well have been declining, addressed mail revenue has actually risen more than 10% since 2008, and 2.7% last year, with Royal Mail price increases pushing the figure up to £7.5bn in 2013 (http://www.postandparcel.info/62212" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). D2Ds also have the capability to be a massive growth area for the Royal Mail as our payments for them are fixed every week whereas they were not before. As you mentioned, it is not a popular move as some posties feel that they are being stretched to the limit already!! I won't mention about the extra 'lapsing' that most of us do aswell...

So in fairness, I would say that we are well paid, but deservedly so!!

Oh and to answer the question...I would stay in the union (even though the area reps certainly need to be a little more proactive with members rather than just reactive all the time). By this I mean hold regular union meetings at CDOs to address concerns. And put what's left of a fair wage to the SAYE scheme. :thumbup

It always makes me laugh someone is happy call me a manager , for simply giving an insight into the problems.

For the record , unlike some on here I argue and fight for members on a daily basis.

Now lets examine what you stated. Yes 50 000 jobs have gone since the 2000. Are postmen and women productivity has increased. However your forgetting a few things , we had two deliveries in 2000 and a number went when we went to one. We have increased delivery points since 2000 but we have lost over 50% of revenue from DSA items. Over and above this we have had seen automation initially imps removing nights in delivery offices and then ilsms and walk sequencing removing indoor hourage.

We have seen end to end competition and we have seen increased competition in parcel market.

Now in terms of the d2d market , this has not grown as much as expected and whilst there are hot spots in the UK which receive consistently over and above 6 there are plenty who have seen d2d stay at the previous average of 2.2. The simple reason why Royal Mail cannot capture more the market is cost.

Now in terms of trying to get part time employers full time contracts , I think the union has a good record on this and the new agreement allows for this. However lets be clear where Amazon and TNT are taking workload away from Royal Mail and therefore Royal Mail are offering VRs to reduce costs and of course it is against the law for Royal Mail to pay VR and then recruit a part timer to full time hours.

In terms of the CWU and area reps being more visible I agree with you , however I know many area reps who are and some have to cover over 20 offices in a large geographical area which is why the CWU has a local reps structure in place to deal with issues in line with both Branch and National Policy.

I think I have the answer to the problems Royal Mail are facing, dingo, why don't we work for f*ck all one week out of 4. It shouldn't be difficult to get the members to agree, just tell 'em it's in their best interests, all the wonderful things the union achieved over the last 20 years - although none in the last 10.
Tell 'em how their terms and conditions are being hammered out on a daily basis and what a wonderful job the CWU are doing - wham job done.

Interesting, you seem to support my argument in parts...

1. Single Daily Delivery saved the company money!! The second deliveries were scrapped in an effort to reduce costs and improve efficiency in 2004. I remember receiving a fantastic bonus of a grand for it (pro rata at the time mind). Does anyone remember Croziers bonus??

2. I agree, we have lost revenue from DSA, a lot will stem from the emergence of TNT cherry picking, whilst Royal Mail still has a USO. Not our members fault, and something which our leaders appear to be campaigning against (to be continued....)

3. Automation like imps and CSS were installed to save indoor hours. Which they have, massively....making Royal Mail more efficient and profitable....so what is your argument??

I seem to remember having a meeting a few years ago and one postie couldn't understand that buying all these vans and PDAs and the cost of maintaining such a big fleet, including petrol costs was better than before when we used pushbikes and our own cars? And we were told, that it might seem odd but as a company we are now better off financially.

And do you know what bugs me dingo??

Just last year, the national postal operator were forced to admit that it had agreed a secret 62% increase in bonuses for thousands of its managers. This despite the price of 1st class stamps rising from 46p to 60p and 2nd class from 36p to 50p even though Royal Mail did not meet its targets. Dave Ward stated that ordinary postmen and women would be "shocked" at the scale of the bonuses. Especially when....get this.....in 2011-12 Royal Mail delivered a very 'significant turnaround' increasing group profit from £18 million to £152 million!!!

I can't be the only psychic to imagine what privatisation is doing: more scaremongering, an increasing need to 'modernise' i.e. cut costs, increased workloads for posties etc etc etc.

And all I am saying is that we are well paid, but very deservedly so!! And in CWU spiel lets not have a race to the bottom on services and jobs. CWU reps are going to need to be at the top their game, no doubt about it!!!

And another interesting article....

http://uk.reuters.com/article/2013/11/2 ... 8820131127" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Operating profit after transformation costs had jumped to 283 million pounds mainly due to the explosion of parcel revenue.

BUT all you read in the courier is that they still need to modernise at all costs, closing down mail centres and cost cutting even though the newly privatised postal operator almost DOUBLED its operating profit in the first half of 2013.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
