Government sources said it would be up to the Governments of Scotland and the rest of the UK to decide as part of the independence negotiations.
But in time Scotland will be forced to establish its own provider under EU law.

Oh I don't doubt there be problems but... it can't be any worse than it is the now.Got take a risk to have some change.Tman wrote:Strange comment.Oh dry your eye's Tman .. you sound like a bitter spurned lover.
I don't suppose the Fat Pretender or the side-kick Mary Hen have ever spurned anyone though, probably not even each other.
Give 'em a couple of years when the starry-eyed Yessers have seen reality, and being spurned may be the least of their worries...

"Worse than it is now"? You think a country suffering financial instability at best, financial flight and turmoil at worst could ever be "better" than it is now?
You whine about the food banks now.....?

Re: Renationalised scottish r mail .
why would shares of a renationalised scottish royal mail be listed anywhere ?wandle wrote:But each share is an individual share in the ENTIRE company. There are 1 billion individual shares in Royal Mail plc.The company's share capital does not consist of 100 million shares in Royal Mail (Scottish assets) and 900 million shares in (All non-Scotland assets). So for all Salmond's rhetoric, renationalisation of Royal Mail north of the border would only be possible via acquiring a controlling stake in the entire Royal Mail PLC (as argued in my earlier post), at enormous cost, OR by the board of Royal Mail PLC spinning-off the Scottish assets into a separate listed* company. However, this option would require the approval of all shareholders. But, since the UK government would vote it's 30% stake against that proposition, it wouldn't take many other shareholders to vote against it to defeat such a proposal !!cyrus wrote:They're only buying back the Scottish part of the company which is under 10%.
*and if they succeeded in creating Royal Mail (Scotland) PLC, where would the shades be listed? On the LONDON Stock Exchange, of course

Which implies that Royal Mail will stay as it is for now, and IF Scotland becomes independent, the Scots would need to set up their own national mail-carrying company.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 18&t=65496Government sources said it would be up to the Governments of Scotland and the rest of the UK to decide as part of the independence negotiations.

Allowing Royal Mail, in time, to phase-out it's own operations north of the border, saving huge amounts of money.
RM would then be free to set up a Downstream Access arrangement with "ScotPost", just paying them for the 'final-mile delivery', in much the same way as TNT, UK Mail etc do to us, south of the border.

Why are you going on about Blair? I never voted for him or his Tory lite mob?
Oh yeah I know it's going to end up like North Korea and you can sit back and piss your self laughing at us when we fail.

Not at all. That level of schadenfreude is more of a celtic trait.Oh yeah I know it's going to end up like North Korea and you can sit back and piss your self laughing at us when we fail.
Most will be only too sad to be proved right and say "we effin told you not to be believe that fat oaf with his preposterous promises designed to appeal to Bravehearts rather than sensible heads"
Apart from which, just like the teenager who just has to leave home and fails miserably, we just know the rest of the UK will still pick up the tab, one way or another.

LTB 556/14 - Scottish Independence
No. 556/14
Ref: GS14.10
Date: 3rd September 2014
To: All Branches
Dear Colleagues
Scottish Independence
The Scottish Referendum ballot will take place on Thursday 18th September 2014.
We advised branches in LTB 387/14 that in line with conference policy the union would be preparing communications to be issued to CWU members in Scotland.
Attached to this LTB is a PDF copy of a booklet sent to members' home addresses yesterday to arrive today, Wednesday 3rd September 2014. Branches in Scotland were sent a copy of this direct to the branch office - and a copy will also be sent to all CWU branches.
In addition, we also include the current research document produced by the CWU Research Department.
Any enquiries on this LTB should be forwarded to the General Secretary's Office at gsoffice@cwu.org quoting reference GS14.10/LTB 556/14.
Yours sincerely
W HAYES
General Secretary

"just like the teenager who just has to leave home and fails miserably" Hmmmm ? Interesting gives us an idea how Tman view us north of the border .Too wee, too poor, too stupid to govern ourselves....By the way I don't know if you know, were voting for independence not whether Alex Salmond will become immortal and rule us for the 10,0000 years.Which seems to be the impression I'm getting from down South.
