I would prefer them too. I hate having to get up at 5.30am because I am a light sleeper. A bedbug coughing wakes me up. I need 12 hours of elapsed time to get my 8 hours sleep.
Different arrangements would have to be made for 1pm specials, just like they already are for 9am specials, although I accept that the 1pm ones greatly outnumber the 9am ones.
When are we likely to find out about these later starts,we have gone from 5am to 6:30 to 7 am now.Would not mind 8-4 in the week with an earlier finish on a Saturday,i've got footy to watch on a Saturday
Is this really being considered at a higher level? Surely they must know picking your child up from school will be affected? This idea will cause chaos.

It may not bother them but slowly they are eradicating the 'family friendly' aspect of the job.

Which is why I think they are doing it. it's a cheap way of getting rid of staff.No need to pay out redundancies, when staff have to give up the job, to pick kids up from school.

No, we stick together via the union and protest RM's lack of consideration to child care issues which they are obliged to take into account whenever possible by various aspects of recent statutes.
I find some of these attitudes amazing' surely we should be trying to have more normal hours. What is wrong with a 8pm start, it puts us in line with most jobs at present. You cannot really expect Royal mail to run a business to suit the school run. If it does not suit then just leave, I have been working start times at 05.00 so 08.00 starts gives me some sort of normal life. The sooner this happens the better and the dinosaurs can move on If they wish. I look forward to a normal family enjoyment time.

For "normal family enjoyment time" we need to get the working day out of the way in good time first.
And if you want to be "in line with most jobs at present" you won't mind being on the minimum wage and working Sundays as a normal day.
Lounge lizard, be realistic it is the only plus we have In royal mail that we are not on the minimum wage. In this climate we are not so badly of for an unskilled workforce. An improvement in our starting time can only be regarded as a bonus.

if you want to work 8.00am till 4pm get another job,as for running a business that is what royal mail is screwing up.

cmon ballee are you real,ask most staff in delivery if they would prefer to work say 06.00 - 14.00 or 08.00 - 16.00, 90 % of staff would choose a 06.00 start,if staff started earlier and finished earlier more people would be willing to work a bit of over time,but if your finishing 16.00 hours who the hell would want to work over time.

Saturday will be a normal working day so footsie will be a no no on a Saturday.
Come racing! I have asked my colleages, only 40 so not a big office. 99% would change from /06.30 to 08.00 tomorrow. We should be able to enjoy a social life at weekends, what is the norm for us, falling asleep at 10.30 on a Saturday night. You can Bet our union leaders or our royal mail managers are not feeling like that on weekends.
