Re: Renationalised scottish r mail .
Its great to see new posters here, they seem to be very passionate to get a No vote. If Scotland is such a burden on Westminster, just let it go.

And by voting No you will get a privatized Royal Mail with massive job losses, bought over by TNT or Amazon or Virgin mail etc on worst terms and conditions.KLL wrote:cyrus wrote:Tory ideology right there...NHS doesn't make money, public transport doesn't make money, community centers don't make money. they're run for the benefit of the public...Vote yes for a rejection of the three neo liberal parties who are just offer the same narrow spectrum of ideas.KLL wrote:Errr so who cares. I will be sticking to a No vote regardless
I'm just commenting on RM as the thread is about re-nationalising RM.

"the buy back will be taken gradually over time"cyrus wrote:David ReidPosties for yes
little meeting with Michael Mathieson msp Falkirk west and member of the Scottish cabinet
regarding royal mail renationalisation
The snp seek to deliver independence to Scotland and secure the next Scottish election in 2016 putting them as the first elected government of an independent
David Reid : what will the time frame be to renationalise royal mail
Michael Mathieson : snp have outlined that renationalising royal mail will be on their manifesto for the next election and they will actively work to complete this with in the four year term
David Reid : will the royal mail shares owned by postal workers be bought back at share price
Michael Mathieson : it will not be known what the eventual price will be but the buy back will be taken gradually over time
David Reid: how will an independent Scotland with a nationalised postal service ensure pay and conditions already set out
Michael Mathieson : nothing will change in that regard in fact the Scottish government has a good record dealing with the unions and ensuring terms are agreed .. recently we have seen the fire service and nurse strike in England however we have not seen the same action in Scotland this is because we have sat down with both sectors and agreed progress so in that way pay and conditions will continue as they do now
David Reid : will the Scottish government set policy within royal mail after its renationalisation
Michael Mathieson : we will create a platform that royal mail will have to work towards and in this way we can continue improving the service this is a protocol that is implemented with in nhs we give them a platform to work with
David Reid: what happens if royal mail dose not achieve the targeted platform set out by the Scottish government
Michael Mathieson : we will look into the workings of royal mail and see what the issues are if it is failing on the directors or managers they will have a time frame ensure that they work
David Reid : will royal mail be given an advantage over their competitors
Michael Mathieson : this would be an issue for and independent Scottish government to discuss but it would be with in the power of the Scottish government to do so for instance we could limit what they could do in Scotland via their licence
David Reid : would the Scottish government involve them selves in a renationalised royal mail regarding excessive levels of bullying and harassment
Michael Mathieson : they would obviously look to ensure that these kind of things can be resolved internally but how ever if it was seen that it was not being resolved then the Scottish government will look to bring in the same kind of whistle blowing service that operates with the nhs so to a degree we will get involved
David Reid : would the snp lead Scottish government go a head with plans to renationalise royal mail if the workers wanted it to remain a private company
Michael Mathieson : it has all ways been snps policy to renationalise royal mail and ensure the long term security of the jobs and royal mails commitment to the public to provide a quality service how ever it is the only party to commit its self to this cause
David Reid : will royal mail have any connection to an ruk royal mail
Michael Mathieson : after yes the Scottish government will take its shares of royal mail and its procedures will remain the same so we will have the connection with the postal service down south but will not have any other link other than to operate the mail efficiently
David Reid : will there be a shake up of managers jobs
Michael Mathieson : it has all ways been the decisions by the Scottish government to down size top heavy management in the departments of the government when we took charge of the nhs we give them the task of down sizing its management by 20% and it has achieved this target s in this sense the government would look into reducing the number of managers with in royal mail by the same rate and would look at performance to do so it is our belief to be as efficient as possible
David Reid : it was discussed that in an independent Scotland and a renationalised royal mail that a position would be made for a representative of the cwu on the board of directors how would the Scottish government look into ensuring that said member would not act in the interest of there own gain
Michael Mathieson : the position on the board of directors will be made for the representative of the cwu but it will be up to the members of that union to elect a person to assume that role then it will be presented to the cabinet for approval if for some reason that person was not acting on the interest of the company and its members an investigation would begin and that person would be removed . it is the belief that this procedure would lead to better working conditions and more efficiency with in royal mail as it dose with in companies in Germany
David Reid : will there be any jobs cuts at the beginning of the Scottish governments control of royal mail
Michael Mathieson : it has all ways been the Scottish government under the snp to ensure that no job cuts take place with in out government departments so we would seek to ensure that there would be no job cuts at royal mail
David Reid: would the Scottish government and local authorities { council } return to using royal mail as an end to end service after renationalisation
Michael Mathieson : this is more than possible we already implements a protocol where you relay on local contractors before looking else where with in certain departments of the government and it would be something we could look at to ensure the viability of royal mail remains strong
for royal mail to begin is journey to renationalisation we first have to get a yes verdict from next weeks referendum election after this happens we can start work on government policy and bringing a better level of service to the people of Scotland not just in the sense of royal mail but also the nhs and welfare a government who is unable to create policy cant achieve a better future for its people
Thanks all who took the time to read till the end this discussion I had with Michael Mathieson gives no promises but aspirations to bring about good for Scotland

Seeing the vision of the Scottish Postal Service returning to be a service is being questioned as if its a bad thing, where to you all think RM is going.

Re: Renationalised scottish r mail .
The stories are that Scotland are going to have 80p- £1.00 first class letter.. i think that's a fare price. The price of a stamp hasn't kept up with the price of inflation. What are the rest of the U.K going to pay after full privatization?

Re: Renationalised scottish r mail .
This is all utter fantasy.
In purely practical terms, how could the Scots re-nationalise a company that has operations in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland ?
The only way they could possibly gain a controlling interest in Royal Mail plc would be to acquire at least 50.00001% of the shares of the company. At yesterday's closing share price of 423.4p, this would come at a cost of £2.117bn. However, as soon as they started to buy big blocks of shares on the open market, the share price would start to rise, and once their holding reached 30%, under the Takeover Code, they would be obliged to formally make a 'bid' for all the remaining shares, driving the share price still higher, at greater cost to the Scottish Treasury!
Bring it on, I say!
If all those who have opted to join the SAYE scheme see the share price soar above 500p due to share purchase activity by an incoming Scottish government, think how much profit we'll get, converting our savings into shares that we will only have to pay a discounted 360p for !!

They're only buying back the Scottish part of the company which is under 10%.

The Queen has already stated that Scotland should not be a Kingdommasterblaster wrote:Perhaps they can have King Salmond on the stamps? I would vote yes - if i had a vote, they can go your own way, I can't stand all the vitriol.
Apparently the discussion went as follows
H.M.: "How nice to see you Mr Salmond."
A.S.: "Nice to see you Ma'am. Now, what are we going to call Scotland when we win Independence?
How about calling it a Kingdom, and then I'll be a King?"
H.M.: "No, we don't like that."
A.S.: "Alright, so how about calling it a Principality, and then I'll be a Prince?"
H.M.: "No, we don't like that."
A.S.: "Well what do you suggest Ma'am.
HM.: " I suggest you remain a Country"
A.S: "But Ma'am, that would make me a ****
I am no longer a number :-)
