It doesn't sound right to me. To be fairish to them, if I were managing someone and they disappeared without contacting me for almost two weeks, I'd probably have asked for their resignation as well, but it ALWAYS has to go through the proper channels - which, thankfully, they often neglect to do, and therefore, their incompetency empowers the worker.

There is a desertion of duty rule and after 2 weeks RM can bring this in to play... I dont know the proper protocol that they have to go thru but James mate.. The way your screw went thru it WERNT the way it should be by law...... NOT RM LAWS... THE COUNTRYS LAWS.....

The fact so much ahs gone on with your personal life is enough to make anyone go off the rails a bit.... Fair play to ya James ... Your fighting back and thats great mate.. Shows balls....

I would advise that you go to your Dr And tell everything how you feel and what happend.... Get an EHS appointment and get them on side... IT WILL GO ALONG WAY TO GET YOUR JOB BACK... BELIEVE ME MATE..... They might talk alot of bollox but in the long run RM cant say you aint helping yourself.. And this is what will help you back into work.... Its something a tribunial will want to see...

Sorry to hear, i wud def seek advice if it was me..i wonder is this more of there new plans.

I was on a 24 hour contract so not sure whether it is part of there plans, I didnt sign the form saying that I did/didnt want a person to come in with me the only thing I had to sign was the resignation note, Is it worth fighting or would it be a waste of time ?

Could you claim for wrongful dismissal (you don't need to be working for the company for less than a year), your contract should mention disciplinary procedures and grievance procedures, these procedures must be followed or this could mean breach of contract.

Had an un-authorised absence (second one) due to having really bad personal problems over the past 2 weeks, girlfriend broke her back and also her ex partner was threatening to kill her and daughter so was off work and stupidly I didnt call work to tell them as my head was so far up my arse due to all the problems we had. Went in this morning to be told by my manager that I had 2 options either to get the sack and it would show on my record or to resign and it would not show on my work record that I would be sacked. Gutted, I really should have taken somebody in with me but didnt want anybody to see me in the down state I am in. Just want to say good luck to all u guys with your quest and will still be a regular on the site as I think its great.

There'll be better times. I said a prayer for you and I'm sure you are in all of our thoughts. Once a postie - always a postie. Something good will come of this. look at it not as an ending but as a new beginning.

Join the Union is a good first step.

Ask questions when you are not sure. Better to look stupid when your being puppy walked, rather than when you out on a delivery by yourself.

Also sorry to be blunt but till you have settled in keep this shut and these open.

I didn't read the above when I posted my last reply.

What you need to hear us all say is:

1. Take the advice of the CWU regarding the issue
2. Join the CWU
3. Put your side forward
4. Win your case

We are all here for you. You can do it. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Concentrate on this; your girlfriend might be upset but she won't die if you're not there twenty four hours a day with her: people are strong and can survive through any situation. So go and fight your case, young man. That's an order. Let us know when you're back on the walks.
