simply_the_best wrote:It wasn't an Independence referendum
Independence, devolution, devo-max, home rule are all the same thing, steps on the path to separation and once you start along that path the result is inevitable. This isn't about "nationalism" which is a word used mostly by the left outside its true definition to evoke images of Jackboots and hatred. This is about the ridiculous position of a country having its own parlaiment without the powers to represent its own people and the inevitable resolution to that situation, breaking the political and economic union we have with the rest of the UK. It may happen on the 19th or it may take longer but its a runaway train no-one can stop now.
The reality of the situation is about as far away from walrus's dystopian "nationalism" scenario as is possible. The only nationalism on show is a rather romantic shortbread tin and tartan version that we're all guilty of after a couple of drams.
and the rules for winning it were different.
Makes no difference to the result nor the point I was making that there was an appetite for home rule long before Thatcher arrived on the scene.
Well the first sentence makes sense unfortunately , this mess remains even with a no vote. As I said the parliament is a constitutional cancer.
About nationalism you are very wrong. Just because it has been muted in the campaign don't think it isn't there. It is a divisive poisonous creed which leads to nothing but trouble . There are some large chips on small shoulders regarding the English and you will see this when this all goes bad when the politicians need someone to blame.
Interesting times in Scotland, the Banks are threatening to leave Scotland if there is a Yes vote, the Queen is stating very clearly she wants no part in this referendum, she will not come out to save the UK. Pictures slagging off the Yes voters, people with money and private pensions stating very clearly on social media that their money is being moved out of Scotland and demanding others to follow them. All the establishment media coming out for a No vote,
The RIC movement in the big housing schemes on a daily bases for months, Thousands have been registered to vote for the first time ever. Independence for Scotland will be achieved.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Thousands have been registered to vote for the first time ever, all Guess voters I presume?
Here's the Guess campaign answers in a nut shell..
Q. You have been told categorically that you will not be permitted to use pound sterling in the event of a yes vote. What currency will you use.?
A. They are all bluffing, we will use the pound sterling.
Q. What do you say to all of those who say that there will be a 6 billion pound black hole in your finances?
A. They are scaremongering.
Q. What about the EU commisioners stating that you would have to re apply for membership, which would take at least five years.?
A. Again it's all scaremongering.
Q. What do you think of Standard Life saying that they will move most of their business to England.?
A. It's only a brass plate on a door. Nobody will lose their jobs, it's all scaremongering.
Q. What about Sir Ian Wood saying that you have vastly over rated the amount of oil left in the north sea.?
A. He's wrong, again just scaremongering.
Q.What about the many economists who state that you would have to either increase income tax and/or VAT, or drastically cut public spending.?
A. Again they are all scaremongering.
Q. B & Q, John Lewis and some others have said that prices in their Scottish branches would probably have to increase in the event of independence, what about that?
A. They are scaremongering.
Q. Many commentators have pointed out that with the growing elderly population, and the decrease in those youngsters starting out in the job market, there would be an insufficient tax take to cover pensions. How about that one.?
A. They are all wrong, and just scaremongering again.
Q.With your immigration policy being so different to that of the UK, it has been muted that some kind of border control may have to be put in place.
A. That's a bluff.
Q. What do you think is the single most aspect of independence.?
A. " FREEEEEEEEEEDOM.
There you have it all questions answered in a concise and well thought out manner.
simple_the_best the way you do your posting is very interesting, and you are educating me. It was interesting how the three Westminster leaders visited Scotland for a few hours, and David Cameron speech said a lot. Scotland will gain independence.

You batter on into the bookies then, getting decent odds now for throwing away your money on a Yes vote, post a copy of your slip, that i might read
Doesn't the prospect of massive job losses and economic meltdown bother you in the slightest?
simply_the_best, something has badly gone wrong, I genuinely believe if I met you away from this referendum, both of us would be a different person. I am not trying to win an argument, both of us believe we are taking the right path.

And Independence is going to put it right? I'm certainly glad I'm not standing on the same side as you, Nationalism has been shown up to be narrow minded and divisive.
I think we both know the reason why the usual excess of anti English bigotry hasn't reared it's usual head on this thread but it's a big part of this so called movement you are a part of.
Nat Kryptonite bud, bombard them with FACTS and get empty rhetoric and meaningless soundbites in reply
You know something, after all the years of civilizing them this is how they treat us. It's like a spoilt child. Looking back over the centuries they had long hair, wore skirts ands painted themselves blue - now look at them - you can't tell us apart well apart from when they open their gob and start talking.
