Hate how before most people took whatever a politician said as blatant lies.
Now, with what we're all promised if it's a yes vote, everyone is all starry eyed.

As a Scot who couldn't really care less which way it goes it's really beginning to grate on me.

You really should care, the implications of a Yes vote will be for the rest of your life living in Scotland.

Statement from standard life...
'In view of the uncertainty around Scotland's constitutional future, we have put in place precautionary measures which would help enable us to provide customers with continuity. This includes planning for new regulated companies in England to which we could transfer parts of our business if there was a need to do so.

This transfer of our business could potentially include pensions, investments and other long-term savings held by UK customers to ensure:

All transactions with customers outside of Scotland continue to be in Sterling (money paid in and money paid out)
All customers outside of Scotland continue to be part of the UK tax regime
All customers outside of Scotland continue to be covered by existing consumer protection and regulatory arrangements e.g. the Financial Services Compensation Scheme and Financial Conduct Authority'

'Standard Life has a long history in Scotland – a heritage of which we are very proud – and we hope that this continues but our responsibility is to protect the interests of our customers, our shareholders, our people and other stakeholders in our business.'

BP scaremongering now...

Douglas Fraser ‏@BBCDouglasF 1m
"BP believes the future prospects for the North Sea are best served by maintaining the existing capacity and integrity of the UK” #indyref

More on this on Sky website (story appearing soon apparently):

Are they scaremongering or merely stating the reality - not something we've heard from the YES men. Although that's just an opinion from someone south of the border who couldn't give a hoots mon.

Reality obviously bud, Salmond himself, when asked about this today was quoted as saying "scaremongering", the bog standard Nat reply for 2 years, except for when asked about Standard Life relocating jobs to England after their statement he answered "nonsense"

Well without England, perhaps as when it was Dane Law, and Wessex, they wouldn't have been invaded numerous times, or had their religion suppressed, or their clan system attacked. They might have been able to grow larger and stronger, they could have used the Oil differently, England might not have had quite so many wars against "The Old Enemy" France.

We in England, or whatever it would be called, may have had a more peaceful history, after all with the Covenanters not rebelling against King Charles I religious decree, he wouldn't have needed to send up troops to try but fail to quell the rebellion. Then he might have successfully held out against the Parliamentarian forces.

Not sure why we call it the Mother country either as although the Union may have peaceful for the last few hundred years. It certainly wasn't before then with various uprisings, invasions and general upheaval caused by power grabs mainly from English Lords and Kings.

We are destined to fight, we've had wars and battles with just about everyone over the years, where would we be today without the commonwealth - would Scotland qualify? Might be quicker getting a Scottish passport than waiting for the backlog to go down in England - :hmmmm who shall I be Glen Garry, Ben Doone - :d'oh! decisions, decisions :cuppa

if you go down to the woods today...........................

Its a pity both sides are treating the electorate like children and are reading horror stories to them. I'd like to see a positive, this is what a YES/No vote means rather than the negative crap we get every election or referendum.

Salmond and Sturgeon have both adopted fish names to hide the fact they are really lizards.
Once they have their "paws" on the North Sea gas and oil reserves they will be able to take over the world (or maybe repair the ship that crashed 2000 years ago)
Why do you think Dr Who has to be Scottish?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The rise of Scottish nationalism is a tragedy and we will pay dearly for this lunacy. So how on earth did we get here?
Thatcher. The decline of industry under her watch and the idiocy of the poll tax trial. All done with insensitive relish and skilfully exploited by labour/SNP and media ever since .
The creation of the Scottish parliament. The main culprit. Yes there was the west Lothian question and no tory representation up here, but the electorate never felt strongly enough about these matters to demand national representation at the ballot box. The parliament was driven primarily by labour politicians some of who seemed to believe that this would bury nationalism. The opposite happened and this was all depressingly foreseeable as the nationalists became the focal point to government opposition. A constitutional cancer had been created. Without the parliament the nationalists would have become increasingly irrelevant ; the unpleasant smell in the corner of the room.
The hostility towards politicians. We have been badly governed in recent years. Incompetence corruption all fed by the unhealthy media political circus. And more people disenfranchised and looking for change . Radical and independent minded politicians prosper here and abroad. Its very much a vote against Westminster .
The perceived success of the Scottish parliament , now calling itself the Scottish government. Money is spent, populist measures top of the queue, without having to worry about raising the money whilst anything unpopular is blamed on the bad people in Westminster who are meanwhile bending backwards to placate us. Its power without responsibility , and I would think builds resentment in England.
Camerons missed opportunity. After his election he should have recognized the nationalist mandate and called a referendum . No negotiations about voting ages , question wordings or dates. Done and dusted within a year , all the delay was always going to benefit the nationalists.
The Yes campaign. These people may be misguided and deluded but they have a cause they believe in and have gone the extra mile and run an effective campaign. The lemmings look to be gathering for the leap over the cliff.
Implications are too readily dismissed as doom mongering. For the vote perception is what counts. When fantasy collides with reality it will be too late to go back.

Don't forget Walrus, 11 SNP MP's shared a lobby with Thatcher's Coservatives to bring down Callaghans government in 79 to pave the way for 18 years of Tory rule.
