Church minister against Royal Mail’s Sunday working

A Dundee minister has criticised a decision by the Royal Mail to open 100 delivery offices this Sunday.

Rev David Robertson of the Free Church of Scotland says money being used to open these premises could be better spent reducing the price of stamps or 
improving its service to customers.

Mr Robertson described the development as a retrograde step and also said it would create a two-tier system with huge swathes of rural areas across 
Scotland being excluded from the pilot.

Royal Mail say delivery offices in parts of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Inverness will be open for four hours on Sunday.

remember save our sundays campaign a few years ago,even if you are not religious it is trespassing on a day meant for a day of rest or doing what you want to ,now royal mail have started the ball rolling it will not stop at 4 hours,the people that bring this in,spend their time with their families.and as i said before it was double time not time and a half,the only good thing is our manager has to come in to open up and close up at the end because you have to be a certain level of security,so his or her sundays are naft up as well,until they can cajole somebody to do it for them.

... apologies for stating the obvious, but isn't making access to our delivery offices for customers to collect packets etc 'improving the service to customers'? ... albeit on a 'paid' voluntary basis.

But RM is no longer a service it is a business,so if they want to collect parcels a Sunday make them pay, or may be pass the collection plate round.

its no point opening the Dundee collection office on a Sunday's then cos everyone will be at church

The retail sector has been working Sundays for years, at a standard rate of pay, time to wake up and smell the coffee

the last post about wake up and smell the coffee,obviously a new starter,i have worked all stupid o clock hours over the years ,if anybody needs to wake up is the rip van winkle who condones this sort of action by rm where double time is now time and a half,if you think thats ok your either a manager or a manager in the making.
