if anyone is portering in our place it's because they want to leave their absorption later :dance

Those who are supposed to be portering will typically be prepping an absorption duty, else on IPS.
The few sorters simply move along the IPS frames as they're filling up.

Porters are still in our office, well i say still but they only go to the walks they know leaving most of us to go and pick up our mail anyway. Today though no porters due to lack of staff.. very stupid idea and knackers you out if you are a porter before you even leave the office.

Think we are lapsing 4 walks and for the past 2/3 years part timers have been in close to full timers hours double prepping. On top of the lapsing there's also other walks left due to sickness and holidays regularly, available as overtime.

Annoys the heck out of me as its blatantly obvious our office is under staffed with managers jumping on to prep walks. Just wish all the staff that did OT just stopped and worked on the walk they are suppose to be on and finished on time. Then we will see how the managers will cope with not being able to cover all the walks.

Also then maybe (wishful thinking) they might up the hours of some of the part timers as we have been working over our contracted hours for the past 2/3yrs. Anyway rant over and the answer to the question is we have porters but there is no point as everyone gets there own mail anyway as its so slow.

Everything looks good on paper / screen but doesn't seem to work in reality, someone got a hefty bonus though for thinking this up

If the portering system is to be judged on whether it gets us out on delivery earlier - which is how it was sold to us - I'm afraid it must be awarded a massive :thumbdown

I was put onto portering and my two walks were prepped or me. Then I was prepping - break off to porter - back to prepping - break off to porter.

Then I noticed other porters were just emptying their own pigeon holes, so I started to do the same - no-one has said anything :Very Happy

Now I'm back to prepping my walks, though I am occasionally pulled round onto sorting. The letters/flats frame has been changed round, which means being slower, so I go onto packets which hasn't :cool
