Foot in the door.....?

Post by vnewson »

Hi
I have just bee made redundant and really want to work for the Royal Mail, I have applied for xmas work. Just wondering if doing the xmas work could benefit me in trying to find a job in there long term (i.e once Im in there ask the supervisors etc). Are any of the mail sorters permanent, or do they all work for Angard?
Many thanks!

No there are permanent Mail Sorters.

As to foot in the door, its a possibility, but more likely if you work in delivery. In fact that's how I started - A Christmas casual in Deliveries.

Always been in deliveries.

Start 5am to 6:30am and finish between 1pm and 3pm depending on duty. Part timers start anywhere from 8am to 10am.

Not many but most are better than the men, and me.

Oh I see not bad times then! Angard are currenty recruiting for mail sorters in my area, the advert says just casual, you will work when we tell you to work etc. So there isnt much chance of me saying I can only do an early shift mon-wed? Are they that flexible do you think? I might ring them tommorrow and just ask. Thanks for help :)

Yeah you could do that but chances are you won't get all 3 days...you'll be lucky to get 1 a week, That's the only good thing about Angard...if you don't want to work just don't call in.

Oh i see, so its not great to work with Angard really if you want something more regular. Best to apply directly to Royal Mail when a delivery job comes up. Thanks for the info :)

Depends which mail centre you work at, whether you are willing to work weekends or not and how good you are at the job. I usually work 12 hours on a Saturday which helps with the hours. Only had less than 30 hours a week about 4 times in the 6 months I've been there, in the quiet summer months.
