Royal mail apology as Joseph gets shirt at last

ROYAL Mail has apologised to schoolboy Joseph Thomas-Trickett for refusing to give him a parcel containing a Chelsea football shirt.

The package, addressed to Joseph, was being delivered to the home of the seven-year-old’s grandmother Marilyn ‘Polly’ Trickett but nobody was home to receive it.

A slip was left asking them to pick up the shirt from Royal Mail’s Dorcan depot.

Polly went to pick up the parcel with her grandson, last Friday, but she wasn’t allowed to take it, despite having her passport, two letters proving her address and a bank card.

She was told by the depot manager to show a photographic driving licence, despite this not being stated on the slip or Royal Mail’s website.

The organisation has acknowledged this was wrong.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “In this case, our colleague believed that correct Identification had not been presented and was unable to release the item. We sincerely apologise to Mrs Trickett and her grandson for any inconvenience and frustration caused.”

Joseph now has his black away strip, with the name of Brazilian footballer David Luiz on the back, after collecting it on Monday..

Have you had your Callers Office training yet ? You are in the Callers Office to help the public NOT to make their life difficult. Don't show your authority .. in the end you are just a posty ... if I had my way I would have sack the lot of you on the spot. Your attitude gave a very bad name to the Royal Mail.

In our DO, many time , our Callers Office staff offer free coffee to customers. They have instant coffee maker. Yes sir/madam..No sir/madam ... we have properly trained staff ( in customers relation ).. Our Callers Office staffs' moto is treat ALL customers as YOU want to get treated ... help the public in best possible way.

Last week on my round I delivered a Recorded without signature by mistake , came back and reported to my line manager , he made a real fuss of it and nearly sack me and now I am on 1 year probation . If this manager at Royal Mail’s Dorcan depot, is responsibe why not same sort of punishment for him ? make the example .. get rid off of him and show him the way to Employment Exchange ( Job Centre ).

I am the grandmother in question in this episode and have only just seen this site and the thread on here.

We never got any apology from Royal Mail.When we had to go back again, Joseph was too upset, shy and embarrassed to go in to the office. A 7year old boy, and all the excitement of this purchase ruined for him.

They were STILL insisting I should have a photographic driving licence. I don't have a photographic one, it is not illegal to have an old paper one. Eventually, they said they would MAKE AN EXCEPTION. What exception? I was complying with the ID requirements as stated in all the literature from Royal Mail, two utility bills, my passport, my bank card, and a letter from the bank.

NOT EVERYONE HAS A DRIVING LICENCE, LET ALONE A PHOTOGRAPHIC ONE. Nor does it say that this form of ID is a requirement. I had more than enough of the other requirements.

I complained twice to Royal Mail complaints dept, and have never heard a thing back from them.

Very, very poor show. This is what you get from privatisation of what was once a good company. Apparently badly trained staff who make the rules up as they go along, it would seem.

Still waiting for feedback from higher management, or even an apology. An explanation?!

Your issue has nothing to do with privatization. I'd suggest the staff and rules you mention have all been in place long before privatization was even thought of. The revisions which have made our (and customers') lives much harder were all mooted before privatization. When you start relying on firms like TNT for your deliveries soon (if the unfair competition isn't dealt with) you'll really have something to complain about when your next shirt is chucked on your doorstep awaiting theft with no proper procedure and the security of being returned to the DO for collection should you be out. I can't see how one over-zealous member of staff who, if working in the enquiry office, would have been at RM years can suddenly be linked to privatization one year ago??
And you still haven't explained why the poor boy was being treated to a David Luiz Chelsea shirt when he had left them already? Did Del Trotter have a job-lot in his barrow?
