Revision: seniority

Two guys started the same day /year. Dom has given the duty to the pet and stated that it came down to "sick leave taken". Was pointed out that the lapdog has much more recent sick...Dom says " from the time they started." We are talking 12 years ago or more. Not my business really, but should I flag this to Area rep? Was always decided amicably by tossing a coin before.

In our office it got decided on age. Oldest being more senior. Royal mail need to step out of the dark ages.

Whether he is a "junior" or not, he is a postman as are you. With more and more revisions taking place and all walks and finish times being more or less equal,
do you think someones seniority still brings privileges and do Royal Mail consider it to be important ?

When you have 'senior men' over 20-30 years service who have been on the same rural delivery for donkeys years and want to stay on that delivery for ever! Then yes,i think seniority does bring privileges that way.And most of our deliveries are more or less equal ( 4-5 hour del span).
The junior men in my office who don't have their own duty yet cover annual leave etc so they do a lot of deliveries over the months/years until they are senior enough to sign for their own duty,just like we all had to do in the past.
Whether RM consider seniority to be important or not I don't really know,I don't think my dom cares too much as long as all the deliveries are covered every day he's happy i think

Fair point, I understand your feelings. In our office we now have some fairly senior full-time staff doing cover duties and some of them get swapped about once they turn up in the mornings. Quite a few part-timers have their own regular duties due to attendance patterns and random start times.
We are just about to go through a "desktop" revision though so it could be all change again soon!
