I assume this is all devised so RM can point a finger at the CWU and blame them for a drop in share prices.

Re: AMAZON DIRECT INJECTION / MANAGERIAL EXECUTIVE ACTION
Can't Amazon do what they like with their packets?
Isn't it better they take them direct to the DO rather than take them to another courier or deliver them themselves?
How brilliant would it be for a DO to refuse to touch them and never see another Amazon packet again?
Maybe we could lapse another duty with the spare time from losing yet more work.
Win win.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I guess it's a case of if you start cutting out the middle man jobs "could" be lost in mcs
Also if Amazon are going to deliver the work directly to delivery offices i hope they work out correct timings, can hear it now " don't tie up yet, waiting on xxxxx tracked from Amazon"

Re: AMAZON DIRECT INJECTION / MANAGERIAL EXECUTIVE ACTION
There is a bit of poker playing going on here - Amazon wouldn't pay RM's delivery charges and Royal Mail were fed up of delivering at a loss because that is not the way forward for a newly privatised company. So ... Amazon engage or buy up lots of small local couriers and private individuals and give them virtually exclusive delivery rights for Amazon products, paying only for successful deliveries (regardless it seems in some cases of how accurate they are!)
Both Royal Mail and Amazon can see the spectre of Christmas yet to come and both realise that they are heading for disaster for different reasons - in RM's case, despite the growth of private packets and having held on to quite a few retail internet dealers, the loss of the Amazon Christmas trade would be like a High Street retailer closing for the first two weeks of the January sales - suicide at the time when most end of year profit comes in.
In Amazons case, their delivery model is not all it was hoped for, amateurish, unreliable and as they already realise, unable to cope with the looming christmas tidal wave of orders.
I imagine both of the protagonists are now backing down, Amazon prepared to pay more than they wanted to and RM cutting the cost to Amazon by making them do a lot of the distribution.
This is a better scenario than we have at present for the areas that have already lost the Amazon packet trade (my route dropped from over a hundred items a week to the odd one if any - and I saw at first hand many of the mistakes that were made by our replacements), but the fact remains that a direct input to delivery offices nationwide will cost jobs in many RDC's and mailcentres and no doubt the ebb and flow system that so many employers now favour that sets staff and logistics needs on a day to day basis leaving employees uncertain of whether they have work next week or even next day will start to prevail.
You can bet large amounts of money in this poker game that when the crisis of Christmas has passed, Amazon will go back to their current model of using easily manipulated and bullied local transport and RM will start staff cutting again.
The only people who lose out in this scenario are the employees and agents of both of these companies - this may be just the right time to call their bluff !

Oh yes the leadership of the CWU believed it as they always do fall for it hook, line and sinker. For so called intelligent people do we really believe this hands in the air shock horror stance the CWU pretend to have is for real. Having said that we'll deliver whatever they bring us and glad to be of service deal or no deal.barbario wrote:TBH, i don't think any of us believed Royal Mail would stick to the new agreements.Jamesethefirst wrote:Well, it just goes to show what a load of old b******** this splendid new agreement is. Glad I voted no, not that it makes a deal of difference, but hey, every little helps.

Give it a week and there will be a luvy duvy joint statement issued stating that all is well and the little misunderstanding has been cleared up with a nice cup of cocoa and a handshake across Moyas desk.

Re: AMAZON DIRECT INJECTION / MANAGERIAL EXECUTIVE ACTION
We had a guy come to our office today and said that sky was sending him a new box and that he had to collect it from the local post office, me and the guy I worked with looked at him with a blank expression because we didn't have a clue what he meant. We said have you had a card left to say it's been attempted delivery and he said no they've not sent it out yet but they said I have to collect it from the post office. Maybe companies like amazon are going to drop parcels off to delivery offices and people come to collect them the same as they would if they had a p739 card but without a postie attempting a delivery?

I think dingo has gone to the dark side as a mediator, a job for which I believe he's suited to - he's not been on for a while still there hasn't been anything controversial that requires liquid bs.Himaggen wrote:Better than that give it a couple of days and watch dingo appear and try to sell us the impending sell-outLincox wrote:Give it a week and there will be a luvy duvy joint statement issued stating that all is well and the little misunderstanding has been cleared up with a nice cup of cocoa and a handshake across Moyas desk.

industrial action ballots.
After the last few agreements, ( Lapsing, D2D payment stopped, NDA lost etc.etc. ) Do the CWU really think that they have any support in D.O.'s anymore ?
Cry wolf again ?

Re: AMAZON DIRECT INJECTION / MANAGERIAL EXECUTIVE ACTION
Surely if Amazon are delivering their own packets they are currently not going through the mail centres now . So if us posties are to start delivering packets dropped off at the DO,s at least we would have some of the business back and bring revenue into the company .Which pays our wages, pensions etc . I don't get the CWU on this one .
