More than 130 Royal Mail jobs still at risk in Hatfield

The axe is still poised to fall on 135 jobs at a Hatfield Royal Mail site.


Unions and staff are being consulted at the Northern Home Counties Distribution Centre, in Frobisher Way, as Royal Mail looks to shut the business mail wing of its operation.

In January Royal Mail told the Welwyn Hatfield Times a six-month consultation would decide the workers’ fate, but eight months later no decision has been made.

Royal Mail spokeswoman Sally Hopkins said: “Royal Mail is still consulting with our unions (the CWU and Unite) as part of the review of our Northern Home Counties distribution operation in Hatfield, as first announced in January 2014.

“The outcome of the consultation will be announced when we are in a position to do so.”
