Quite right, you leave mail in the box at the end of the drive for collection and raise a small red metal flag to notify the postal person that there is mail for collection. The difference between UK and the USA is that everyone has an external mail box at the end of the drive on the roadside.The postman drives up, opens his window and can empty the box without getting out of his vehicle.
