Late 60s and early 70s when they used Morris Minors and Mini vans.
Not forgetting the Marina, Ital and Metro van in the eighties.

Ahh, the Marina. Ace for hand brake turns. The mail didn't go all over the shop when you did one, as there was no mail in those days

Oh yes I get it now. It's a lie to say mail volumes are down because it's still higher than it was in the 60', 70's and early 80's. That makes perfect sense.

Have you ever driven a 1960's or even 70's diesel? No wonder they used petrol vehicles, 0-60 in a about 1/2 a minute - if you got one that went as fast as 60. Lorries were better because you had room to fit a 3ltr+ engine in.

They cannot even get PDA's that hold a charge for the length of our duties so what chance of a van,no thanks,I've seen Rm's efforts with technology and I'm not impressed.

Ford launched its new small van to the press in Italy this week when it presented its new Transit Courier. First seen in the flesh as a static exhibit at the CV Show, there were no surprises, it drives as well as it looks.

The new van will initially be offered with three engine choices, two Euro-5 diesels and one petrol option. The 1.5-litre diesel produces 74bhp and the 1.6-litre diesel is a slightly more powerful 94bhp version of Ford’s current TDCi range. Expected to account for no more than 5% of sales, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost turbo-petrol powered van will appeal particularly to those who don’t do high mileages. This compact three-cylinder engine produces 99bhp, but can’t match the diesels’ fuel consumption. It is, however, £400 cheaper.

Filling up with 2 star petrol, I remember it well. I also remember turning the ignition off and the timing was so advanced to enable them to run on 2 star that they suffered from pre ignition and wouldn't turn off, you had to stall then, ahh the good old days.
