"12 miles and 15-20 mins" is 36 to 48 miles per hour, faster taking into account time emptying the boxesmasterblaster wrote:Hmmm. Rural boxes on my round had their collection times reviewed: Manager said they took an average of the last 3 months collection time. What idiots! Already had to miss boxes and do something else then go back cos too early, the average was just an average of how late the box was scanned, not what time we got there first time, because obviously they couldn't be scanned early.
Now some boxes are up an hour and a half later, some have earlier times on a saturday and some don't. All of em are too late first time round on a monday tuesday and saturday, so I drive back to them all at the end of delivery, adding another 12 miles and 15-20 mins every day. T**sers.

Re: Collection Duties Scrapped?
We have not heard any thing about scrapping collections yet ? It is very much possible to do mid day collections by delivery staff who are already out there ... coming back to office they would have empty van ...so mid day collection no problem .. like it in 70s 80s, and I think 90s..... letter box collection after first delivery by the delivery postman in the area. I am sure it will come and mid day collections will be done by delivery officers.

Re: Collection Duties Scrapped?
All collection staff were given stickers to put on selected boxes today informing the public of collection times been changed. I put 13 stickers on boxes out of my total of 23 boxes

Postbox Strategy including Collections on Delivery
Joint Communication from the National Collections Joint Working Group
This joint communication between Royal Mail and the CWU provides an update on the progress of the strategy and provides clarification to Managers and CWU representatives.
By lunchtime Friday 15th August all outstanding issues will have been resolved.
This will include the following:
• Detailed deployment plan for Postbox Strategy
• The Collections Best Practice Revisions Guide jointly reviewed to incorporate any enhancements required for Collections on Delivery (to be circulated following the PEC on 19th August)
• How Area/Local Cross Functional Joint Working Groups will be established in each Plant Collection Manager’s catchment area
• Identification of the initial postboxes that will move to collection on delivery
• Exceptions process for postboxes identified for collection on delivery
• The verification process for the identification of additional low volume Postboxes in some units to be carried out between reps and managers locally
The process for engagement and deployment will also be included.
In the meantime the deployment of the timeplate change notification stickers should continue and be completed by 18th August in all units (except Scotland). The exceptions process will address any cases for retaining later collections where stickers have or will be deployed.
In line with the terms of reference Area/Local Cross Functional Joint Working Groups should be established immediately. This will be led by the Lead Collections Planner in conjunction with the CWU Lead Divisional representative. Data packs will then be shared as per the terms of reference with the members of this group providing details of the initial postboxes identified for collection on delivery.
Local start-up meetings can commence where information will be shared in line with the above.
Further clarification will be provided in the next communication as stated above.

Hopefully this will replace absorbing and all those collection staff will be on delivery to reduce number of absorbing walks, but it will means people who do them once or twice a week for SA pay will be worse off. This will means even less overtime money for employees who want to earn more money.

Re: Collection Duties Scrapped?
Absorbing is here to stay as Royal Mail want everyone working every minute of their duty with as few people as possible to do it with. I'm also amazed at the number of people moaning about the loss of SA when it is quite possible that some collection drivers could be out of a job due to these changes. Talk about "I'm alright Jack".Darren Bent wrote:Hopefully this will replace absorbing and all those collection staff will be on delivery to reduce number of absorbing walks, but it will means people who do them once or twice a week for SA pay will be worse off. Re: Collection Duties Scrapped?
So just to clarify.....
My duty is already an hour too long and has been for 3 and half years and now I have to try a neighbour with every packet and collect from a couple of boxes on the way back! By time my finish time comes I'm going to be doing less delivery than ever!

" try at neighbour " ... you must be joking .... all DOs in our city , don't do it ... do not take any notice what management say about " try at neighbour " .... if no answer, put red card and bring item back.
