So who are these collection drivers? Do we still have people solely employed just to do collections?

If so, then the collection drivers will just have to do some delivery work - afterall, we all OPG grades and we do as we are asked...

Someone said, how do I know the collection boxes with less than 50 items of mail. What sort of question is that? You go to a box week after week or even day upon days and you cannot estimate how many letters you collect from certain boxes??? wow!

I bet some boxes will probably have less than 10 items of mail on some days. Postboxes do not have to be on the end of every other street. They are in supermarkets, town centres, train stations, shops, street corners, post offices and many other places: folks just have to be more organised and post letters in the evening or whatever time to cover all possibilities.

* Most important letters are either collected from businesses or taken to the post offices to be weigh, as signed for, special or to have correct postage on them. The vast majority from anywhere street or avenues are probably postcards, social mail and return mail to businesses.

9am-3pm means within the time range specified; it does not mean just 3pm collection for delivery posties

i think u misunderstood me chrisj i know the boxes with less than 50 items in but my point is how do the people making the changes know by guesswork cos i can tell you no box is the same day to day, i am employed solely as a collections driver by the way, but fully expect the role to either end completely or to involve delivering packets after 5 pm as well, only a matter of time imo that will happen, actually trying to deliver when people are at home. One thing i can tell you i collect from 50 -60 boxes per day and only a handful have less than 10 items per day and maybe 15 with less than 50, the emphasis shouldnt be on the customer to be more organised and post in the evening though should it especially nowadays with email about, this is one way of driving people to post less and less in my eyes, which is bad news for every part of RM i would have thought.

Hybrids will be reduced due to less SA. - Can only see hybrid time ( if they carry it forward ) being used for more absorption / cutoff work as it will directly impact the requirement for collections.

Collection revisions will happen = reduction in hours and overtime available = bigger savings for the office

Union are backing this. - the RM 'Way Forward Agreement' tagline is but a big umbrella with many a thing under it. - Union have agreed, nowt can be argued.

Many people are going to be out of pocket.

My local mail centre has probably 100 or more drivers who do collections only. Admittedly many will be on business collections but I doubt jobs will be available in delivery offices for the surplus. Plus have you seen the size of some of them, I can't see them walking too far

I suppose the collection drivers must work in large towns and cities and perhaps big mail centres with delivery offices attached...

This scheme is a nationwide thing so if the numbers are good in your boxes then fine but I know some boxes that have next to nothing and you do not need to actually see the inside of the box to guess how many letters are posted - the location and demographics is enough to tell you. Moreover, managers do talk to some collection drivers and some of them work as relief drivers in areas where collection is done on SA.

Collection drivers in cities will probably be largely unaffected but people should read thoroughly what RM is saying... RM will removed some boxes and will also introduce more than a thousand new boxes

Customers are not posting that many letters and this might affect some people but in the scheme of things, RM is not making a lot of money from the odd personal/social mail especially with the USO involves - lots of processing and travel for a second class post to anywhere: not worth the hassle.

When was the last time you sent a letter/postcard? TBH, I will rather wait to post my letter when I am in town/shops or close to work rather than walk to my post box which is not that far. My post box will be gone anyway (council estate covered in graffiti already) because it is about 5 minutes walk to a Post Office; with another pillar box in the precinct/shops areas 1+ minute before reaching the PO.

If the letter is not important people already use email but other letters that matter will force the customer to look for the nearest post box or post office - it is not that hard. RM is not a social service!

what's the impact on collection staff??.... will they be doing hybrid duties.... ie delivering what we on deliveries are normally expected to lapse followed by a wave of later/last collections??
