Royal Mail Peterborough staff walk-out affects 4,000 customers

Postal deliveries to about 4,000 Cambridgeshire customers were disrupted when about 70 Royal Mail staff walked out over a management dispute.

Sorting and delivery staff at the Orton Southgate office in Peterborough walked out at 06:45 BST.

A union representative said staff had been "reassured their concerns will be listened to" and agreed to return to work on Saturday.

The Royal Mail said: "We remain hopeful the issues can be resolved locally."

Steve Butts, divisional representative for the Communications Workers Union's Anglia region, said: "The return to work has been facilitated and staff have been assured their concerns will be listened to and taken seriously by Royal Mail."

'Unballoted action'
One worker claimed staff had concerns about "bullying and harassment" within the office.

Mr Butts said a number of concerns had been raised by the postal workers but added: "There was one incident, and that was the straw that broke the camel's back."

Royal Mail delivery director Steve Molloy said: "Royal Mail can confirm that around 70 of the 130 colleagues at Orton Southgate Delivery Office, which covers deliveries to the PE2, PE7, PE8, and PE9 postcode areas took part in unballoted industrial action this morning.

"We would like to apologise to customers for the disruption of their mail service. We have drafted in additional resource including managers who are doing their very best to deliver mail and limit the impact of this industrial action on our customers."

This is like our office but we don't walk it's like this all over the land is it not apart from Peterborough those brave posties yet have been lied to once again by our union " reassured their concerns will be listened to" they never listen to the workforce only impose intimidate and threaten us all and the top of the CWU are in on it with the Management!

Same all over the country, despite the rosy picture of harmony painted continuously by both the union and management. Why do they always listen after something has happened? I bet the issues in this office have been flagged up dozens of times and naff all has been done about it as per usual. Well done lads.

im not surprised the postal workers at orton southgate delivery office said "enough is enough". its the same story every where judging by posts ive read. but every day the management at orton southgate delivery office get worse and worse and boast they are untouchable. Two managers in particular are power crazy and control freaks. its their duty to keep you safe - but would you let them? posties hurt on delivery go to these managers for help. so what do they do? realize you have a weakness and target it. they then pressurize you every day until you hit breaking point. having suffered it myself I found it very upsetting watching another colleague go through it. I feel that something should be done that targets the manager who watches you getting abused by your DOM or numpty spambreaker. and something definitely should be done to the DOM who instigates the bullying by sending his line managers to bully and intimidate. when you react you are told to go upstairs and the DOM then turns the screw and laughs in your face and says "I know you have made a complaint against me, but so have many others and no-one has brought me down".
well here is news for you orton southgate DOM and for every senior manager who turns his back on bullying and harassment: a call centre manager lost her job because her company claimed she did not do enough to tackle b & h at her office. she had delegated the incident to a junior manager to deal with. however, her company say it has an 'almost zero tolerance to b & h" and as the senior manager she should have acted to safeguard her employee rather than turn a blind eye. in the end 7 employees were also sacked with her.
congrats go to her company who realized that the whole corrupt unit had to go - and that's what lies ahead for the orton southgate management team. they should all go!! not just the ones who dished out the bullying but the ones who watched it. the ones who turned a blind eye and the DOM who sat at the top of the stairs in his office smirking with his little blonde PA.

So are the cards marked for the Dom & his underlings? The bullying, harassment & intimidation has been rife since They moved to Southgate. Or will it be brushed aside as normal & grievances deleted from the system again?

It would be interesting to see how the GOONS (managers) attitudes change if mass meetings where to be held outside of managers homes and show them up for the s**t faced bullies that they are in front of there family's and neighbours, managers think they can do what the hell they like at work, well now is the time to take the fight too there front door, "WE KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE YOU TOSSERS"

Mass confrontation at a managers house means you lose any argument. Just shows that they are managing an unruly workforce that requires a tougher stance.
Need to show that bullying & harassment is systematic in trying to reach unrealistic targets & unachievable workloads.

Anyone doing this would more than likely be dismissed, and deservedly so. What a terrible suggestion
